Restart. I need to let the com 'rest a while' (abt 1min) before restarting. If not, the com will load till the windows screen and restart. I did not manage to monitor the temperature.

physically feel your case or something lor, or monitor it when playing the game

Looks like most people are recommending LGA1150 socket even for new setup. I am planning to DIY one new desktop with my son (his first time). Would not the latest LGA1151 socket be more future proof? Sorry it has been 10 years since I have looked into such topics.

The sandybridge (2nd gen) which was release in January 2011 is still good up till now. The performance improvement for every gen is around 5~10% from previous gen. Furthermore, many triple A games don't better much from those extra CPU performance.

LGA1151 is a good $50 premium over LGA1150 for same tier performance and features. Seeing the pace Intel improving their CPU cores, you will still most likely want to change to a brand new socket platform the next time you want to upgrade, so IMO Skylake won't future proof...

I play Dota 2 on my Asus laptop.

Graphics card is Nvidia GTX 970m.
Processor is i7-4720HQ.
Laptop monitor is 1080p (Full HD).

During gameplay, frame rate is constant @ 120fps.

Very little lag (~33ms using LAN cable).

Overall, gameplay is very smooth and lovely.
