Yes, you can and should actually boot w/o hdd (LOL).

Alot of things happens at POST. If I'm the TS, I will clear cmos via jumper, then go into bios to disable the full memory check. From the latest ss, it seems like its stuck at initialising bios. But since it passed bios integrity check already, u might want try a older different bios.

actually this mobo has no jumper. what i did is remove power cable, batt and hold onto power switch and the reset cmos button behind to totally drain away the power hence it will ask me to go into bios to set time and date. if not i cant even go into bios at all.

here is what i got.

does it look okay for the power?
i also load loadsafe setting. but still end up stuck at post.

will try tonight using another psu. or in the bios the voltage is okay?

I'm not sure what to do next, u need someone of commach's level to continue debugging haha.

But if I'm you, I'll set:

Set vid to 1.3.
Disable vdroop.
Disable Turbo.
Set phrases to minimum (1 if possible)
ram to 1.65v.

And see whether it boots.

Did your do anything before the unsuccessful post? Etc update bios.

Most likely is mb or cpu spoiled which I think the latter is more likely.

i do nothing eh. only went for rma came back last year sept. then now got the chance to use. u mean mb more likely spoil?

set default bios and reflash to older bios would be the first thing to do before you actually replace any hardware.

couldnt get into bios today. but tested using gtx 560ti on second slot. still the same.
use another psu to boot it up. still the same. so it was the motherboard bios all along. hope i can get into bios soon. anyone got any guide to M-flash bios? thanks

I'm able to go into bios. Set vdroop to low and ram voltage to 1.64. Now it can go into next screen! And there is no bootable media screen. Unfortunately for a moment only. Not sure where to change the power phrase. And the vid voltage in the motherboard.

If you are able to get into the BIOS menu, are you able to save the setting and reboot back into BIOS consistently ?

sometime yes sometime no for now. if i set to 200mhz which will become 3.6ghz. got higher possibility. not sure why. in anyway i only try 3 or 4 time only.

"Having used a MSI X58 board for almost two years I can give you a few other tips after you've gone through all the other trouble shooting and advice offered here.

1. Don't use XMP Profile
2. Load BIOS default values and then change the following; manually enter dram voltage and four primary timings per the memory mfgs. specification. Manually change the memory ratio to yield the stated operating frequency of your memory (DDR3 1600Mhz). Set command rate to 2T (2N).
3. Manually set QPI/VTT voltage to 1.25v when running more than 6Gb - this is critical because the voltage droop on QPI/VTT is pretty bad on the MSI X58 boards - especially on earlier BIOS revisions "

true? meaning my psu is still okay? coz plugged in another also the same.

If you can booth into BIOS, high chance that your CPU is OK. You cannot boot in BIOS consistently with only CPU, RAM and gfx and BIOS default setting ?

yeah i cant boot in. but this morning when i change vdroop low then im able to. maybe i need to change vid to 1.3? btw what is vid? hahaha!! i cant seem to find it in the bios. thanks!

Its in overclocking section. It might be named as vcore but I think is VID..

Phrase control is in one of the screenshot u posted. Its currently at auto. change to 1 or lowest numbered if possible.

There's no option to disable vdroop?

Disable XMP. Run ram at 1333mhz.

Do not use 200Mhz for CPU. Change to the default 133MHz.

Something have degraded in your system over the years. There's a higher power loss somewhere, which is why the voltages I recommended is so high. Most likelt your CPU have degraded and need a higher voltage to run it. That's why lowering vdroop works, but its still not enough. Best to disable it + pump voltage to cpu.

There is also a possibility that the phrase control have failed, which is why its better to set to 1 phrase only.
