Tried getting your requests written down first in Japanese? Show the note to the shop when you are buying. Something pictorial can work as well. Draw a bicycle disassembled and put into several boxes with dimensions. Draw an aeroplane too.

When I visited Japan, I had a little notebook so I could write and draw to communicate. Chinese and English. They read and write English better than they speak and listen.

Google translate is good only for words, that is to say a word by word translation. Don't try to show the entire E-J translation to them, it looks weird in many ways which I can't describe. Do a J-E translation on any site and you'll likely see what I mean.

If you can, use it as a dictionary, and try to form the sentence by yourself - it works much better that way. That said though you'll need a certain level of command of the language.

You can try this: このバイクは分解することはできませんか。私はあとで空港からチェックインしてから、箱にパックしてもらえませんか。 (kono baiku wa bunkaisuru koto wa dekimasenka? watashiwa ato de kuukou kara check-in shitekara, hako ni pakku shite moraemasenka?)

Basically I tried to sum up your requests, to dismantle the bike and pack it into boxes so that you can check it in. You might get questions from the owner if you can fix it back yourself though, so you might want to reply with: 大丈夫です。国でバイクを直する。 (daijoubu desu. kuni de baiku o naosuru) It means it's ok, I'll fix it back when I get back.

I might have made a grammar error or two though, so please correct me if you spot it. :)

The 2nd sentence is wrong. Look at it again

バイクはシンガポールに持って帰りたいですから、
先に取り外して、箱にいれていただくのは可能でしょうか。シンガポールでまたバイク店の方に頼んで、組み立ててもらいます。

Is it in the aspect of the referencing for country? I was expecting a question like: 分解するなら組み立てことはそう簡単にできることじゃないから、本当によろしいですか?

Hence I thought of something like that. Or should it have been: シンガポールに戻るの後でバイクを組み立てします?

I've just started self-learning not long ago for N3, so pardon the command of the language :x

Ah I see, should I have used ますから instead? I originally paired して with から to link up the second part of the sentence.

->Later, after i check in from airport, can you park into the box for me?

Sounds funny right?

Let me give you a revision on て+から (N5 grammar).

I managed to speak to this bicycle shop guy from Osaka. Need to be real clear with some of my doubts and questions. I will try to do the translations below. Please help me with this

1) thank you helping me.
ありがとう, 私を助けるために

2) I need the bicycle to be disassembled, and put into smaller boxes. Preferably just 2 boxes. I need to be able to carry them.
私必要自転車解体,据える内側ボックス. 望ましくは2つのボックス. 私はそれらを運ぶことができるようにする必要があり

3) Each box, should not have a total linear dimension of 158cm (Length + width + Height)
各ボックス 長さ+幅+高さ 未満であります 158cm; 航空会社必要条件 <-- this is like chinese

4) Please let me know the estimated weight, if they are too heavy. i will need to buy a trolley
何卒お知らせ下さい, 推定重量. もし彼らはあまりにも重いです, 私は小さなトロリーを購入し ます.

5) The price 68,376yen is the net price? tax included?
68376yen 正味価格?税込み?

i have a feeling, my translation has probably gone horribly wrong. PLEASE HELP!

1) thank you helping me.
ありがとう, 私を助けるために
Grammar there definitely looks weird with the usage. To me it means "For the sake of saving me, thank you." I'm thinking it should be along the lines of ご協力ありがとうございます (go kyou ryoku arigatou gozaimasu) Basically means thanks for helping me.

2) I need the bicycle to be disassembled, and put into smaller boxes. Preferably just 2 boxes. I need to be able to carry them.
私必要自転車解体,据える内側ボックス. 望ましくは2つのボックス. 私はそれらを運ぶことができるようにする必要があり
自転車の解体、それとボックスにパックすることが欲しい。良ければ二つの箱にパックします。その箱たちを持ち帰りから、小型のボックスを使ってください。(jitensha no kai tai, sore to box ni pakku suru koto ga hoshii. yokereba futatsu no hako ni pakku shimasu. sono hako tachi o mochi kaeri kara, kogata no bokkusu wo tsukatte kudasai)
I basically tried to phrase it such that you're wish for the disassembly of the bike, as well as to pack them into boxes, ideally two. I tried to add in the fact that you're carrying them, so please use a smaller box. For this I think I need a check. :x

3) Each box, should not have a total linear dimension of 158cm (Length + width + Height)
各ボックス 長さ+幅+高さ 未満であります 158cm; 航空会社必要条件 <-- this is like chinese
For this one I think you should flip it the other way round, like 航空会社の必要条件は各ボックス長さ+幅+高さ未満158センチであります (koukuu kaisha no hitsuyo jouken wa kaku box nagasa to fuku to takasa miman hyakku gojuhachi senchi de arimasu)

4) Please let me know the estimated weight, if they are too heavy. i will need to buy a trolley
何卒お知らせ下さい, 推定重量. もし彼らはあまりにも重いです, 私は小さなトロリーを購入し ます.
I think this might go under "見込むの重さを教えてください。もし重過ぎなら小さいなトロリを買います。(mikomu no omosa o oshiete kudasai. moshi omo sugi nara chiisa na torori o kaimasu) I might need a check on this one, I'm not confident with my use of omosugi (can-san please)

5) The price 68,376yen is the net price? tax included?
68376yen 正味価格?税込み?
I'm thinking this might be 合計は68376円ですね、税込ですか?(gokei wa rokuman hassen san byaku nana ju roku en desu ne, zeikomu desu ka?)

i have a feeling, my translation has probably gone horribly wrong. PLEASE HELP!

Hmm I'll try to help, look at the above in blue. Again please correct me if I'm wrong, still in the midst of learning the langauge. :s22:

->ご協力ありがとうございます is ok. Depends which part of the email you are using it for.

2) I need the bicycle to be disassembled, and put into smaller boxes. Preferably just 2 boxes. I need to be able to carry them.

自転車を取り外す必要があり、小さい箱に入れていただきたいです。できるだけ、持ちやすい箱を2つお使いいただきたいです。

As far as i know, we don't really use ~が欲しい when talking to a Japanese. It will make you sound like you are talking like a kid.

3) Each box, should not have a total linear dimension of 158cm (Length + width + Height)
各ボックス 長さ+幅+高さ 未満であります 158cm; 航空会社必要条件 <-- this is like chinese

航空の制限で、各箱の寸法は158センチ未満に満たす必要があります。

4) Please let me know the estimated weight, if they are too heavy. i will need to buy a trolley
何卒お知らせ下さい, 推定重量. もし彼らはあまりにも重いです, 私は小さなトロリーを購入し ます.

見込みの重さをお教えください。
重すぎたら、小さなトロリを買う必要があります。

5) The price 68,376yen is the net price? tax included?
68376yen 正味価格?税込み?
I'm thinking this might be 合計は68376円ですね、税込ですか?(gokei wa rokuman hassen san byaku nana ju roku en desu ne, zeikomu desu ka?)

税込みの値段は68376円でしょうか。

i have a feeling, my translation has probably gone horribly wrong. PLEASE HELP!

Thanks for the pointers again, I've learned quite a bit today! For point 1 I think the original intention might be in speech though.

1) He understood that the size cannot be more than 158cm. Is it ok to have 2 boxes of such sizes?

Just reply 「はい。そうです」

2) He understood. He will try to see if can split into 2.
