need help on a weird issue

i am sorry for this long text but it describes the weird situation:

hey guys so my friend asked for my help on his weird pc issue which is auto showdown while playing games on a wed (23nov)

i have asked him to wipe the golden contacts of ram and gpu but it stills auto shutdown

so i ask him to do the memtest, all pass

thursday 24nov - so i helped him to reapply thermal paste, ask him to test with csgo, but stills auto shutdown about after 20 mins...
monitored temps, both gpu and cpu around 80+ degrees while gaming

next i took out his ram with 1 stick remaining and also took gpu out

tried csgo with on board graphics and it did not crash

fri 25nov- so i deduced that maybe gpu is spoilt, brought to corbell to test but corbell showed me it is ok, tested for about 30 mins but issue did not occur, temps ok at around 80+ degrees

ok so we go back, i help him reformat his ssd, csgo 20 mins, again crash!! [from here we can confirm it is not software issues]

the following monday(28nov) we bring psu to tech dynamic to test. the guy there tested for 30 mins also no issue

went back, took mobo,cpu,ram and gpu and bring to corbell for testing. 1 hour passed and issue does not crop up

ok i am getting confused, so i brought his psu back home to test. i tested it with my computer for 1 hour, using both aida64 and furmark combined, does not auto shutdown... (my setup almost same as him, just that i am i5 4690 and he is i7 4770k)

tuesday 29nov - a wild thought, maybe his psu wall cable spoil? took mobo out of case, laid it on mobo box, plug in cpu,ram,ssd and gpu, tested it with my psu wall cable and wow no crash (tested with aida64 combined with furmark)

ok so to double confirm, i test with his psu wall cable (aida64 combined with furmark), wtf no auto shutdown???

maybe the issue is gone? ok so i let him play csgo without putting it into case first. completed 1 competitive game(about 1hr?) of csgo and no crash

ok i started to think maybe the issue is randomly gone. put all back into case
now ask him test with csgo again. wow magic. after 20 mins of csgo crash again

so i take out his internal hdd left only ssd, crash.
take out casing connectors (usb3,usb2,audio and front panel power stuff), crash.

now take out mobo out of case, crash again. we got played by this stupid pc...

i got fed up. he suggested he bring his whole com to his friend computer repair shop to try fix.

today 6dec he told me his friend said psu wattage not enough (wtf? - he bought a new psu in jan 2016, how can the issue now then occur??)

i can't believe it, so what do you guys think?

den maybe u can show us the part where the temp is 80+ and whats the current power rates? 12+, 5+, 3.3+ vbat, etc?

download the hwinfo to check on the info.

but my take might be the mobo is failing at some part. or psu.

Apply new coat of thermal paste for the processor and clean off all the dusts collected at the fan and heatsink. Be sure to double check the mounting of the heatsink assembly for perfect mounting and not tilted.

Sound like overheating inside the casing. Do not assume casing mounted with exhaust fans are always better than out-of-the-casing test run.

yea its funny i also dont get why csgo can crash... his case is dusty but i think its still cool enough

try disabling "Enhanced Turbo" to reduce temps at cpu & vrms (i hope), to test if it still occurs

can u also take a look wats inside the "CPU VRM Over-Temp Protection" setting?

80+C is way too high running this Jurassic era game, It should never be this high to begin with. Poor ventilation, improper mounting of heatsink and massive background processes can lead to high processor and resource usage. Reduce the amount or background processes before you try again.

If new coat of thermal paste apply, open the casing side panel and blow a standing/desk fan directly into the casing to narrow the probabilities of overheating which is likely the case here.

i am not trying to disagree but i tried running aida64 combined with furmark when i took his mobo out for 30 mins x2(change of psu cable), hitting 94 degrees on cpu sucessfully without crashing...

i asked him to use msi afterburner for the temps but he gave both anyway:

aida64: CPU 65~ GPU 75-78
msi afterburner: CPU 49-51 GPU 48

so it crashed with this temps...

You can just go to the bios, and check the power readings. No need to game or get the pc to 80+ degrees, etc.

But you should also rule out high temps like what others suggest.

Most people do not have a problem with this. Perhaps your friend is one of the lucky ones. Quite easy to test, just borrow a PSU.
