Hi guys,

I intending on building this:

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H170-D3H - $496
Cooler: Hyper212 *reuse*
Memory: Corsair vengeance LPX 2400MHZ (4GBx2) -$85
Storage: Samsung EVO 120GB SSD - $79
Storage: Hitatchi 1TB *reuse*
Video Card: R9 390 8GB *reuse*
Power Supply:Any recommendations?
Case:Recommendations?

Ok questions here:
1) For the ram, whats the difference between 2400MHZ and 2666MHZ? The prices are the same
2) For the power supply, is 650W over kill for this? And whats the difference between Gold, silver, bronze?
3) I am tempted to upgrade to GTX1070, but my budget is about 1k -1.2k only. Should I upgrade or stick to my 390? Now without PSU and case alr $660.
4) Can recommend some good PSU and casing too?

THANKS!!!

clock speeds lor. but go value ram. ur mobo cannot O/C. u get whatever speed also will limit to 2133mhz.

i think the psu is fine. and that's because ur gpu is a super power hog. 275tdp omfg. try superflower or fsp ba. i think the platinium, gold, silver and bronze is their efficiency rating. all are above 80% for sure but at different loads, each has a different efficiency.

if can get rid of the 390, sure...
the 1070 is a nice upgrade but depends on u.

casing i cant really recommend. not very interested in anything too costly that compromises performance. prefers bang for buck.

1. Base on the Mother board u are using, generally it will run at stock at 2133, unless u move to a Z series board

2. I believe the PSU is ok but maybe a 600 is sufficient? Gold silver platinum is just how efficient it is (less wastage) generally it doesn't really apply to us domestic users against commercial companies that use a lot of power and could lead to huge cost savings
3. Quote from what my friend said when he saw this "******* la rich kid ah r9 390 not enough still want to upgrade to 1070, performance also better a bit only" I totally LOL at this but I think if u are gaming at 1080p it should be enough? I'm going to be using a 1060 6GB edition, so I'm guessing yours would be good enough also! Not really worth the upgrade in my opinion😂

PS I'm really enthu about this now cause I have spent literally the whole day reading articles after articles and forum after forum of GPU CPU PSU RAM MOBO if is sort of driving me nuts haha

the problem with the 390 is the disgusting tdp. i went to check and it's at least 275, 300 on reference card. it's too much to handle.

3. Ask your friend define what is 'a bit better'. Show him this :s22:

$1.2K is perfectly doable with GTX 1070. Especially since you are reusing HDD. Too bad you missed out on the DBS GOSF, 11.11 Singles Day Qoo10 and Lazada Online Revolution sale. You should hold out for Amazon Black Friday sale next week and 12.12 Lazada Online Revolution finale and also Qoo10's whatever counter-Lazada sale.

For these sales, how much savings could there be? Roughly 100-200? I'm also holding off to buy next week and on Christmas! Oh anw which parts should I purchase online? Any recommendation? Or just follow the pricing and just go for the cheapest alternative? A bit worried in terms of the warranty

Wa that big a difference! He BWG haha, but for 1080p is it necessary to go for a gtx 1070?

If you intend to get 100+ Hz monitor yes. Certain demanding games like Witcher 3 will still makes it relevant to maintain at 60 Hz.

Some folks here got their GTX 1070 for as low as $340 after all the stacking in early Nov with DBS GOSF and Qoo10 Grand Sale coupon discounts. Overall savings can hit $300-400 depending on how you maximise your coupon savings... ;)

may i know what games are u playing??

current monitor? 60hz? 1080p?

and beside that for mobo and cpu can consider i5 6500 + msi b150 bazooka plus or any b150 as i think u probably wont need so many features (+ pionts is that u can save a bit more)

for gpu i still think that if u dun mind just upgrade as well. but wait till the black friday.

for psu and case i still think that u can cheap out your case. like getting a tecware alpha @69 (got windows side panel and psu shroud). psu wise if u intend to use your r9 390 best get SF ledex gold 650W. but if u gonna upgrade to 1070, can grab a 500~550W psu like SF Ledex 550W sliver.

PSU better efficient u can look at here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/80_Plus

On top of these questions ah,
1)if i don't overclock i don't need to get the z series mobo is it?
2) So for the ram at 2133HZ is good enough? Then should I get the 1 stick 8GB or 4GB x2 ah?
3) And as for casing, I don't feel like getting mid tower casing, my previous one mid tower but take up a lot of space. Is the micro casing ok ah? Or doesn't allow airflow?

thanks thanks guys.
