Chill, I also have the same experience with the stupid Canon E3470 printer.
When I brought, thought was easy to setup just use app to link up.
End up spend an hour trying to figure what is wrong.

Your printer model at least simple to get it resolve, mine is so tedious
have press this and hold this and that button on the printer itself.
Cannot use the software to correct only the app.
Yea lor... jus thought wireless can jus use after 'simple' setup... Canon also ask me press this n hold that button and press the stewpig wps router button and worse still ask me call up singnet... still reset my router plus 2.4hz (troublesome I gotta reconfigure all my WiFi for pc, laptop n chromecast) then turn here turn there repeat the pressing again when I call canon (i felt stewpig) for couple of days then ask me to download patch driver or something... aiya... y didn't they tell me earlier... aiya... waste time nia... in the end nothing wrong with router.. wah really stupid go n reconfigure router... mayb they think i very free...

Mayb cannot buy cheap things... sigh... for simple usage I think ok la... sigh

I have the HP 4520 printer and wireless seems quite ok.

Can AirPrint directly from iPad, Android phone also support wireless printing, not sure if you need to install the HP Android driver.

Windows PC just click add printer and scanner, no need to install the HP software for basic functions.

Only problem is the printer only supports 2.4Ghz and channel 1-11.

Err.. I don't think is because these are cheap models.
I don't know why Canon shifted printer setup to app based and this is a key issue.
In the past usually Canon printer setup are done using the driver software package
which is easier but now it have shifted to app based.

I also spend a lot of hours trying to figure what is wrong cuz it refuse to detect and connect
until I am more familiar with these newer model setup.
Definitely a lot of steps than previous generation printers.
