IMHO.
It is price vs performance.
Important data need a backup system. NAS is not a backup.
No matter how robust the file system, it cannot recover from a multiple drives failure.

I estimate I need about 20 TB of storage.
Of course I can use ZFS with ECC. I need to buy or build 3 same sets.

Yes, I agree NAS should not be a (last) backup, it never was. If your backup plan only relies on NAS backup then you are in for a disaster. You still need cloud sync, location backup and other form of physical backup. Of course, nothing is 100%, but it will be much lower.

If you dive deeper into storage servers (not using the word NAS), ZFS is the next better thing. In fact, you will be surprised that ZFS is also used in the server space powering your clouds. It is the enterprise class file solution.

This is fact. You can only backup as much as your wallet could afford. But a good file system reduces the risks.

Not sure but having some issue updating with my synology version.
Not sure is it due to windows setting issue or others issue.
I follow online guide and edit my registry and ended laptop cannot boot.
Try hours googling and use another com to add back what I delete to recover my laptop.
Guess I just leave it untouched at the moment father than more complicated issue…
