Huh! stand all the way? Cannot get tickets with seats meh? My parents won't be able to stand thruout.

the train is like our mrt or kl , rapidkl train ...
cannot buy seats ... first come first served basis ...

Pingxi line no reserved seats. First come first serve.

This train always pack on weekend. Plus the frequency is 1 hour once. So u can imagine how anxious ppl are to board the train.

Weekends avoid by all means if you do not like massive crowd.

Weekdays also packed now....especially during HK school holidays...

Want to share another way to jiufen.
From Taipei Main station, take mrt to Zhongxiao Fuxing mrt station (3stations), go out exit 1 to Fuxing Road to board Keelung Bus outside Zhongxiao Fuxing MRT Station direct to Jiufen / Jinguashih. Travel time: About 70 mins
Bus #1062 depart every 20 minutes from bus stop

short trips like pingxi to tms, no need to buy in advance. the frequency is very frequent, just buy on the spot. u can choose express or normal trains, reserved or non-reserved seats.

for longer distance eg hualien to/fro taipei, better to buy in advance as not as many express trains like puyuma. should have local trains if u dun mind the longer journey time.

best is to check the TRA website on the train schedules and frequencies.

Well got kids and elderly better book tze chiang to ruifang and back.
No doubt it is 50mins on local non reserved seats, but now we are so pampered 50mind aka stand from pasir ris to boon lay.
Pay a bit more, 30 mins on fast express train with seats, will be ideal.
