2666cl18 quite nasty imo try to get faster ram at lower cas latency

Ryzen benefits from faster RAM so I would suggest at least DDR4-3000 cl 16.

You can consider this which is less than S$80 per 8GB and with much better specs than what you were looking at.

WD Blue 4 TB is actually rebadged WD Green. For work purposes, I would suggest HGST 4 TB instead for better reliability. That is a little hard to find online ATM so perhaps you might want to try SLS.

Absolutely. Anything more then 3000mhz is when the benefit does not justify the price. Although 2666mhz is not THAT bad.

Not sure if I'm too late to chip in, but looks like 3DS Max prefers clock speed over core count.

So instead of buying a new Ryzen 2600 with generally lower clock speed but higher core count, u might wanna try the second-hand market for older 4-core or 6-core Intel chips that can break the 5.0GHz clock speed barrier. Also depends on what u do inside 3DSMax. So u need to think of the trade-off between clock speeds and core counts, especially if u intend to multi-purpose this rig to do other things other than just 3DSMax.

Thanks for the pointers. I did look at Puget system review but for the usage I am looking specifically at Vray which leads me to Techspot chart, where core count seems to crown over clock speed:

And i end up selecting Ryzen 5 2600 to seek a balance between core count, clock speed and mainly pricing.
