Need some advise for a rig upgrade

Need some advise from you guys on an upgrade instead of getting an entire new CPU. The reason why i want to upgrade is because my current motherboard network adapter only supports up to 100mbps. I am using Fibre optic 200 mbps.

The motherboard also does not have enough slot for me to plug in a PCI-E soundcard.. currently using Creative Recon3D external sound blaster. Would be interested to get Asus Xonar DX, would it be a big difference in terms of sound?

This is my current setup;

CPU + Mobo: Intel i5-2400 / BIOSTAR H61HLC
RAM: G-Skill HT PC10600/1333mhz 4gb DDR3 x2
HDD: Samsung 1TB SATA 3.5
CD ROM: Sony 24x SATA DVDRW
GFX: SAPPHIRE 1GB 6870 DDR5
PSU: FSP 500W AURUN SERIES GOLD 80+
Casing: COOLERMASTER 370 CASING
OS: WIN 7 ULT 32BIT
Speaker: Altec Lansing MX6021

I will be keeping the HDD and CD ROM and intending to keep casing and PSU if possible. I want to get a SSD for faster bootup, preferably 250GB. Will need to change OS to 64bit as well. My budget for upgrade is about $800.

My usage mainly is for music, tv shows and movies. Gaming not much but im playing games like BF4, currently can only Mid settings.

Hmm even the killer ethernet E2220 is 100mb max.... Or am i wrong?

Take out the network adapter and buy a USB adapter type. Save one pcie slot.

If you are using the fatality Recon it is good enough. You dont need another one.

Might wanna consider 64bit OS as it will utilize the 8gb ram you have. With 32bit you will see 8gb installed but only 4gb usable.

You will need a new gpu if you planning to game on BF4.

I am using AsusN53 usb adapter. connects up to 300mbps unless your router is far away or blocked.u can consider this method.

Depend how far you away from yr modem im using tplink wn8200nd usb high power one bt since im quite far frm modem only hitting 20-30mbps
Edit : yes definately ethernet is always the fastest

Wifi is a strange thing. Even behind one door no distance also can make a difference...

Just wanna ask is there a motherboard with ethernet capable of 300mb?

If i switched to wireless, will it affect my online gaming? Do i also need to upgrade my PSU if i were to get the GPU you are recommending? Not sure if the power is enough.

Err i dun think USB adapter is any good, cause not enough power as compared to PCI version.

Unless to say there is no wall/door in between. Else the connection would be very bad. I had experience twice and thrown them out in flavour of on-board wi-fi. Its alot better.

A high power usb adapter is better than a normal pci version

The external soundcard is more than enough.

So far gaming wise not much. Latency slightly higher but no drastic performance decrease.

Many people think that the faster then internet speed = good gaming experience. So everybody go LAN. Yes it is good to a certain extent only. In general, how much of the data is being transferred in actual fact while gaming?

Wireless with the capablity of dual band it can match up to a LAN speed connection also. The only downside is the latency. Probably 1-5% more if you use wireless.

sry to hijack the thread, but just a simple qns. my comp sometimes crash when i load too much video and my screen would just turn black. is it a gtx card, motherboard, cpu,harddisk or ram problem?

You say you load too much video what do you mean ? Like open too many video at once ?
