I know but chances of survival should be high with every step up higher no? Idk but possibly.
Yes, but gotta consider if kenna block by any man-made structure like canal, big drain or even a fence. Then plus the terrain, maybe some parts are just steep rock faces, loose soil/gravel and/or dense vegetation. But correct on the general idea of getting to higher ground to increase chances of survival.

Didn’t know people go there for pilgrimage. Are there any holy sites there?

There is a sacred mountain Mount Kailash 冈仁波齐峰 in China Tibet side. There are many devotees from different religions go there do the 52km pilgrimage clockwise walking route each year.

This is the horse year so you walk one round is equivalent to walking 4 rounds when you walk other year. Thus there are many more tourists going there this year.

Travel wise it is easier/faster and cheaper travel from Nepal and cross the border comparing to travel within China.

So you intend to go to Base Camp 1 and then come back to Kathmandu, right?

Very expensive, but great fun, heard from my niece that she and her bf had to sit helicopter to a mountain small town to acclimatize.
can just hike or jeep up, climatise better this way

It’s interesting why most people will run along the valley. Why not run up the sides of the valley? Isn’t higher grounds safer?
On hindsight yes, because we already seen everything now. At that point I think it's hard for anyone to visualize how massive the mudslide is until it poured over them

Instinct to run as fast as possible. Going up is not fast or ez

Agreed. Run straight is easier than climbing a hill. The ground is not flat. N media said some part, water rised 9 metres high.
Unless one had a ladder or wings, if not the water/mud will still cover you.

If you go for the Langtang valley trek, you need to take jeep from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi in Rasuwa district where the trek starts. And the road runs along the river that got smashed by the flash flood.
I'm guessing the sinkies and tourists were there to do this or other treks, this being one of the more popular.
surprised you brought up this. Langtang valley
I rember this 2015 earthquake /avalanche that buried the entired Lantang town.
for those that didnt know it was the worst every earthquake in Nepal dated 2015

On April 25, 2015, the Langtang Valley was the site of one of the most catastrophic localized disasters in Nepal's history. A massive 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck the country, triggering a colossal glacial avalanche and landslide that completely wiped out Langtang Village. [1, 2, 3, 4]
The disaster is remembered as a profound tragedy, but also as a powerful story of subsequent survival and rebuilding

The 7.8-magnitude Nepal earthquake—also known as the Gorkha earthquake—struck on April 25, 2015, at 11:56 AM local time. It was the worst natural disaster to hit Nepal in 81 years, killing nearly 9,000 people, injuring over 22,000, and displacing millions.

CNA:

Many of the missing are foreign tourists, including trekkers in the Himalayan nation, as well as scores of Hindu pilgrims to Tibet's sacred snow-capped Mount Kailash.
even locals also dun want to go there, unless they are the construction workers or immigration officers or tour guides
