I'm using a NETS Flashpay card for ERP and carpark payments, and I registered for the Auto Top Up service with my credit card. NETS collects a $50 deposit for this service (actual charge to the card, not just a hold) upon registration that is held by NETS and not credited to the Flashpay card.

The reason is given on its website:

"In the event that NETS is unable to charge or collect the top-up amount from the registered credit/ debit card during the Auto Top-up process, NETS will offset the outstanding amount from your deposit."

I canceled the ATU service recently in October and assumed that the deposit will be automatically returned to my credit card. But there was no credit, so I contacted NETS last week via their webform to ask what happened to my deposit. Today I got a reply asking for bank account details for them to return my deposit.

I trawled their website and I can't find any info on how this deposit will be treated when the ATU is canceled. It seems that you have to actively ask for the return, at least in my case. I wonder if anyone else got their deposit returned automatically. Some of us might not even remember paying a deposit (I did only because I noticed NETS charged a deposit when I reregistered for ATU with a different credit card.)

New process, I guess many people owe them and never pay up!

Since July last year, they have been sending me reminders about this 50 "fixed deposit", cos in their records I have one card with atu but in my records i dun have. Then they ask me for bank account to refund credits in the card cos I tell them I cannot find my card. After so much hustle, nothing came back. I just want to make sure they dun deduct 50 from my credit card :ROFLMAO:

Why is a S$50 deposit required?
In the event that NETS is unable to charge or collect the top-up amount from the registered credit/ debit card during the Auto Top-up process, NETS will offset the outstanding amount from your deposit.

Nope. New process nowadays, since 2022. Deposit charged to card immediately when you apply, before they send activation code. This is not just a "hold", it shows up on the bill.

That's why I had to chase them for refund when I deactivated ATU. They should automate this.

Nets Flash Pay card RIP June 2024, "effectively" for public transport.

" If you’re using a NETS FlashPay card, please visit any SimplyGo Ticket Office or Ticketing Service Centre from 19 Jan to 18 Jul 2024 for a refund on the remaining value and exchange for a NETS Prepaid Card to pay for public transport fares."

Actually why still want to do manual top up?
Actually why even keep a transit card, since you can pay with debit/credit cards at the faregates? Paying with some credit cards gives you cashback/miles; topping up EZ Link/NETS Flashpay/Prepaid does not.

If you don't drive, you don't need to deal with prepaid cards.

Some merchants only accept cash or Nets (including NFP) / Ezlink. Possible to get some small rebate for manual top up, so it’s still better than outright paying cash.

right. is now is whether about the intangible cost of spending the time to manual top up is worthwhile
