aiya, why never check:s22:...

can help take a picture of your ONT? curious to see how it looks like:s12:...
i take a pic when i go home later haha

Only the 10G port can be used from the ONT.

There are a few ways to improve your situation.

1) Add a fan to resolve the heat issue

2) Put the router just outside of the DB Box by drilling a hole which can let six Ethernet cables go through.

ONT -- Ethernet cable -- EB810v outside of DB box

EB810v LAN ports -- Ethernet cables -- patch panel -- room LAN ports

3) Pull one more Ethernet cable to the living room and add a 10G or 2.5G switch in the DB box. If you already have two LAN ports close to each other, then no need to pull the extra cable.

FTP -- Living room LAN port 1 -- EB810v 10G WAN

Option 3A: more expensive but rooms have 10G access.

EB810v 10G LAN port -- Living room LAN port 2 -- patch panel -- 10G switch in DB box -- room LAN ports

Option 3B: cheaper but rooms have only 2.5G access

EB810v 2.5G LAN port -- Living room LAN port 2 -- patch panel -- 2.5G switch in DB box -- room LAN ports

EB810v 10G LAN port -- 10G capable desktop or NAS in the living room.
wow thanks alot!

for point 3A/B,

U mean:

Modem ONT 10g db box > Lan 1 living room > 10g WAN on router near Lan 1 living room > 10g/2.5g LAN on router > Lan 2 living room > patch panel Lan 2 db box > switch db box > different room patch panel db box

correct ma?

MR sounds cool and good,... ONT + non-ISP version of modem + cheaper without tv shows.
but i read the MR thread also full of complaints.

starhub 10gb is crap coz of the complains here.
Singtel is crap coz they refused to use ONT

sigh. why singapore telco all like that. how ah?
i dunno what to choose, my contract just expired.

What about Starhub 5Gbps plan and then choose the ONT option? Based on the reports, they can only achieve 3Gbps to 4Gbps at peak hours, that is still not bad for a S$45 per month plan.

to the most average users, they won't care one... as long as stable and meet their budget, good enough liao...

for advanced/power users, obviously it's a different story...

excellent idea. i just need to make sure i can get the ONT version. can i do it online?

a) Starhub 5Gbps plan -- very good pricing at S$45 per month with either the Nokia all-in-one ONR or you can choose XGS-PON ONT without router.
https://www.starhub.com/personal/how-to/5gbps-broadband.html

Probably not. You have to go to Starhub shops.

Yes, that is a cost effective router to buy now to use with Stathub 5Gbps plan (ONT option, no router).

SH every time call me is always wayang the same same thing. Network team keep asking for Speed Test directly from the router when their Tech already came more than 5 times. Keep asking for the same thing which is speed test as if it will be resolved by doing speed test only.

Had been using VQ 1gbps and upgraded to 2gbps 2 years ago. Always felt they were very stable, but now moving to new place so I'm looking at 10gbps options. Emailed VQ and they say they have no plans for offer 10gbps for residential at competitive rates like SH and MR.

Most likely have to go with either SH or MR when I move to my new place in a few months. Hopefully by then will have more options but knowing the Singapore market, it won't happen and we users always have to suck thumb and accept the subpar standards.

iirc it's $12 per residential termination point port for GPON if i'm not wrong

Hmm, I remember it is S$15.

https://www.imda.gov.sg/resources/p...chived/ida/press-releases/2008/20080926174755

OpenNet will offer attractive wholesale prices of S$15 per month per residential fibre connection and S$50 per month per non-residential fibre connection, to the Operating Companies or OpCos. Such wholesale prices are expected to bring about competitive retail prices in the ultra-high speed broadband market.
