I hope 10Gbps will be our new standard for all isp.
Well, ISP are here to make money. 1Gbps will likely stay with us for a very very very long time until the Govt subsidizes another upgrade for NBN. I think that will only happen when our network and CPU shifts to optical and photonic quantum computer and no longer use copper connections.

Singtel is usually charging the highest price for the plan. It is now charging S$137.72 per month with free GT-AX11000 Pro (Singtel claims that it is worth S$759, and indeed Challenger is selling GT-AX11000 Pro at S$759). So S$138 may be the ceiling price for the 10Gbps plan.

Starhub is giving an all-in-one ONR, or you can top up for TP-Link Archer AXE300 at S$7 per month (total S$76.3 per month, with free Premier+ (Premier League) for 24 months, Disney+ and Viu Premium for 12 months).

Basically Starhub is charging similar price to the 2Gbps plan (dual 1Gbps plan) for UltraSpeed trial. After all, Starhub mentioned the following in their FAQ.

https://www.starhub.com/personal/support/article.html?id=kD5GRQtfxB3LxaEDMjuFm5UltraSpeed is a 2Gbps broadband plan with a 10Gbps broadband trial to give customers an extra speed boost. We hope to continue the delivery of up to 10X the speed of 1Gbps Fibre Broadband after the trial, subject to regulatory approvals.

Starhub only need to top up $7 monthly for 24 months for the TP link AXE300 is damn cheap. total $168 only?

but starhub and singtel uses ONR. which i rather avoid.
on the MR's FAQ. they uses ONT but seem to force you to bundle in the AXE300. which i rather get the upcoming Asus BE98 to be ready for wifi7. i think its gonna be a $1k router. haha.

I think most people prefer cheaper 1Gbps/500Mbps plans

Simba $20/2.5Gbps is a good start, but considering the NLT monthly charges i highly doubt Simba can maintain the price for long

Yes Starhub is probably subsidize the TP-Link Archer AXE300 and they recommend to set it up as an AP because of the ONR. Retail price of the router is around US$480 (promotion) to US$599.

I am not so sure about the MR bundle cost for TP-Link AXE300.

MR bundle is need to top up $150 for tp link axe300 router. So $150/24= $6.25 per month. StarHub is $7 monthly.

May be ISP want to force users to sign 10Gbps by removing the lower price plan?

I wanna join also don't have.
Is it because your contract over?
Mine contract ends Dec this year.

Only upgrade to 10G if your home network infra is ready. Like 10G switch. 10G NIC. Wifi6E or Wifi7.

I've contacted VQ and indeed they don't accept new contracts for new VQ or existing VQ customers. Sad, I would have loved to use it. I were not able to join SI last year as they rejected new customers as well.

Which ISP is the most carrier neutral / let use your equipment and got static IP?
Not a fan of Singtel for those reasons, may be I should change from to MR or StarHub

received the invite to recontract 10gbps by MR at $60/month. but for my gaming and streaming usage, i dont think is required. i think some of my devices cannot utilise such a high speed as well. will just go for the 1gbps again for $38.

i remember months back there was a news article that government is seeking to upgrade our internet speed to 10gbps. 1gbps is a norm for quite a decade. Most 5G devices now is capable of download speeds of more than 1.5gbps, so its a matter of time our fixed broadband should be faster than our 5G signal on phones

Actually the real world speed for 5g mobile internet is only 300+ mbps la and for home wifi 6 is up to 800+ mbps.

may be in future all isp offer $69/ mth.

I hope 10Gbps will be our new standard for all isp.

Indeed it may well be true all ISPs will offer 10G service at around S$69 per month in the near future (say within 3 years time, with top up for 10G capable wireless router or AP).

But even then 10Gbps plan will be the premiium plan with lower tier plan offered, eg, 2.5G plan and 1Gbps plan. 1Gbps plan may be gone in 5 years time though.

My guess for the future (3-5 years time), as mentioned in earlier reply.
1Gbps base plan -- S$15 to S$25 (GPON ONT/ONR)
2.5Gbps base plan -- S$20 to S$40 (GPON ONT/ONR) [SIMBA 2.5G plan to launch at S$20 per month]
10Gbps base plan --- S$40 to S$80 (XGS PON ONT/ONR or better) [Starhhub/MR 10Gbps trial pricing are within the price range already, but the plans are considered as "trial" with fallback to dual 1Gbps plan).

We have recently seen most of the local ISPs officially lanch 10Gbps plan. It is not only like ISPs would like to gain the broadband market that is already saturated/flatted in Singapore so far, but the movement to 10Gbps broadband from local ISPs is also to comply with the nation plan to upgrade the country's digital connectivity infrastructure, which has already been visioned and pushed by IMDA over the years: https://www.straitstimes.com/tech/t...-to-spores-digital-connectivity-josephine-teo

Went to MR physical booth to ask about recontracting early cuz mine expires Dec 2023.
The lady said can recontract early at 21 months. so i think sept i can upgrade to 10G.

Saw this on MR's facebook ad.

Sounds like they disabled the 6Ghz band on the Wifi 6E to comply with IMDA regulations. but i suppose we can download the general release firmware open to all countries and should be able to get around this?

but of course download the US firmware will void warranty. haaiii.
