yes u can use that slots.

this depends on each boards. not all boards definitely gives u x8 x8 configurations as such is because of SLI requirement. but mostly is only x16 x4 configurations. beside that not all gpu really uses up to x16 capability.

=================================================================

damn all these lane theory im not that good at it but this is what i tell u.

1st pcie lane x16 will be a 3.0 type with the lanes taken by cpu (or u can say provided by the cpu)

then some things like another x16 lane or x1/x2/x4 lanes depends on the motherboard.

so here is an example for u. :

lets say u buy this mobo : ASUS B150 PRO GAMING AURA

their specs: Expansion Slots
1 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (x16 mode, )
1 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (max at x4 mode) *1
2 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x1
2 x PCI

*1:When PCIE x16_2 is occupied by x4 or faster devices, PCIE x1_1 and PCIE x1_2 will be disabled. (PCIE x16_2 is actually the gpu slots)

this is because board like B150 max lane able to provide 18 so a few of the lanes is given to other ports and support so u cant use other lanes beside PCI.

more details on system lanes :

Thanks for always replying and even providing links :s13::D

After reading the link and doing more research and also flipping through the mobo menu

I found this:

From what I understand:

Is it right to say that there will always be a x16 Lane connection for the GPU provided by the CPU, (for this board at least)

And if i do happen to plug in another card into the the 2nd x16 lane on the board, it will be at x4 speed (Still overkill for wireless cards but at least it doesn't impact the GPU performance).

unless u using some better Z170 mobo den u can get x8 on the 2nd gpu slots.

I see, but if i do plug my wifi card into the x1 slot above the GPU, won't the anttenas be blocking the mic/speaker in/out cause the x1 slot seems near that part of the mobo.

Antenna can adjust one. Even if you install in the slot below your graphics card cables will also 'block' the antenna. No apparent disadvantage.

I just changed to asus h170 pro gaming myself last week. So far no issues. Great for gaming yet no intention to OC (I dont OC my parts at all).

As I am using my com inside my room, I also install PCIE wifi card. My suggestion is to put the wifi card above the first GPU slot, as you wont want your GPU fan to blow hot air onto your wifi card.
Graphics card is sucking air not blowing air on it wor...

Can consider MSI H110i Pro. Comes with built in AC wifi adaptor. Although the ram slots, sata slots and pcie slot are limited.

Quoting a good suggestion here. But ts can also consider getting a Intel chipset based PCIe WiFi card on taobao / aliexpress. They use reference Intel drivers and driver support are a non issue.
Imo, no point overpaying for a repacked broadcom chipset rubber stamped with "Asus" on the box.

Would those with cables that come out to connect to an external antenna be better?

Are you referring to these? http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/dual-band-wireless-ac-7260-bluetooth-desktop.html

Yes, but there are OEM bulk pack versions (for devices like laptops) added on to a PCIe daughterboard for desktop use.

Example:
https://world.taobao.com/item/533272736954.htm?fromSite=main&spm=a312a.7700820.0.0.Yub3GO

There are other options on taobao and aliexpress (more expensive). There should be official taobao forwarders you can use.

Probably can look out for high gain antennas but check for the high gain antennas but you need to check the frequency band support but your mileage will vary.

Hi guys, if my mobo says that it accepts 2133mhz ram, what if I plug in 2400mhz ram? Will it still work but run at 2133mhz? Or will it not work at all?

Thanks!

Hi guys, I've finished building my rig already but I have a couple of questions

1. Where do I get custom sleeved cables?
2. Anyone DIY before? Are a lot of tools needed /tedious?
3. I'm using a semimodular PSU and the GPU 8 pin has like a spare 8 pin just sticking out, dangling there, is it safe to cut it off?
