Just installed windows 7 on a new harddisk, and have no internet. The Ethernet port is not blinking, but the problem is not the cable because it works when I revert back to my old harddisk. I have resetted the router in case that is necessary.

I have googled around but the answers are really confusing for someone who knows very little. Is there a general step by step guide that I should be following. I have read stuff about uninstalling things, getting a wireless network card, doing command prompt stuff, but it is all very disconnected answers and messy clues.

TS, check your device manager. Any ! or ? beside the device entry means driver installation is required.

99% is no lan drivers.

I formatted my HDD last week and installed Win 7 64bit, and end up Win 7 dont have lan drivers by default :vijayadmin: and since i formatted my HDD already I dont even hv internet access to download.

Finally managed to get it working by downloading lan drivers using handphone and transfer to PC :s22:

Thanks. Yes it really was just the LAN drivers. Didn't expect a computer to need that. I thought a motherboard takes care of that, not the hdd :)

even keyboards and mice sometimes need drivers to be manually installed :)

motherboard doesnt take care of drivers. Windows is the one that normally does it.
