All rooms will have lan point (RJ45)

Router am intending to get either RT-AX86U / RT-AX82U/ AX88

Then you should opt for ONT. What you intend to get are all good routers, do not go for ONR.

Try ONT -- Asus router first to see if it is good enough or not. If not good enough, add a cheaper AX58U or AX56U in the master room and use AIMesh Ethernet backhaul.

I think AX58U good enough then mesh with AX56U.

Yes that is a good combination as well.

Depending on the budget, the AIMesh can be of the following combination.

AX58U + AX56U -- low cost, good for current WiFi 6 2*2 clients.

AX82U + AX58U/AX56U -- mid cost, cater for future WiFi 6 clients, or current WuFi 5 3*3 and 4*4 clients

AX88U/AX86U + AX58U/AX56U, higher cost, same as mid cost combination, but with higher performance CPU on the main router if one needs to run things like OpenVPN client/server in the router.

Hi, need some advise, here is my current setup:

ONT in DB - patch panel - router in living room

Due to current WFH arrangements thinking of connecting laptop to LAN, would the following work?

ONT in DB - small switch - patch panel - router in living room
- patch panel - laptop in study room

The router must be placed in between the ONT and Patch Panel. Any switches can only be introduced after the router.

ONT > Router > Patch Panel/Switches/Wireless Routers in AP Mode/APs.

I am assuming your router in your living room is your typical all-in-one wireless router. With this, you can either get another router to place in between the ONT and patch panel, or use this as an opportunity to move the existing wireless router to the ONT area and upgrade it for better wireless experience. You can disable the wireless function (if not required) if you place a wireless router with the ONT.

If you can share what ISP you are on, and the wireless router you are using, I guess, the community here can give good suggestions on what can be done next.

Hi guys,

This is my current setup. Currently, both router provide wireless connectivity tho I do not need it for Router #1.

ZW3bKPU.jpg

Router #1 is in DB box, together with the ONT. Then from Router #1, it is connect to the Ethernet Panel in the DB box to my living room's Router (#2)

From Router #2, it is connected to my 2 computers in my room.

However, I would wish to make use of the ethernet ports in my room BUT when I connect the Ethernet cable from Router #1 to the Ethernet Panel in the DB box for my room, it does not work.

It does work if I connect a Ethernet cable from back from Router #2 > DB box Ethernet panel > Bedroom #1.

Hopefully this drawing helps as I am quite bad at explaining :s22:

This works

Doing this does not work

Is there a way to resolve this?

After I changed the setting on my linksys router (#2), I cant seem to enter the linksys website anymore when I key in my IP address to chrome :(

Router 1 Connect to all the Lan port (to living room and bedroom).

- Configure the dhcp on router 1 to start from 192.168.0.51 to 192.168.0.254*

* the ip range you can decide.

Router 2

- Configure it as AP or bridge mode
- Configure IP 192.168.0.2
- DHCP disable

why need to resolve when there shouldn't be problem in the first place?

cut long story short - you should connect your second router using lan port, not wan port. (some routers allow wan port if you configure it as AP because the wan port is changed to lan port with AP settings)

Thank you for the reply, so I should change the "100 to 199" to "51 to 254"?

Thank you for the reply. Yes, Router #2 is only being connected with Lan port. The problem I am having now is that I cant seem to go from Router #1 > Ethernet Panel port for my room > Bedroom #1 computer. Not sure why it doesnt work.

Currently still going from Router #2 > Bedroom #1, so the Ethernet cable running across my living room :(.

yes, you should set the router 2 to be in the same subnet of router 1.
i.e 192.168.0.2

this will solve your problem.

for dhcp address range, it is up to you, as long as it starts after 192.168.0.3

Hello guys, Thank you very much for y'all reply.

As this is my first time messing around with Router settings, I am unsure if I just missed an option.

the Lan outputs for Router #1 (in db box) dont seem to work(?) BUT it is able to give Router #2 (in living room) internet. :s11:

Currently I am able to connect to both Router #1 and Router #2 for internet wirelessly.

My connection goes as:

Optic fibre line > 1st ONT port > Internet port on Router #1 > 1st Lan port on Router #1 > Ethernet panel in DB box (to living room) > Lan port on Router #2.

d86aAmr.jpg

----------

I can confirm that the Ethernet port for bedroom #1 on the Ethernet panel in the DB Box works. As When I connect an Ethernet cable from Router #2's lan port > Ethernet panel port for bedroom #1, my computer receives internet.

However, other Lan outputs from Router #1 does not work. I tried plugging in my laptop to Router #1's lan port and received no signal. So I guess there is something wrong with the settings or Lan ports with Router #1?

---------

Current settings

Router #1 (D link DIR-868L)

Router IP address: 192.168.0.1
DHCP: enabled
DHCP IP Address Range: 51 - 254

Router #2 ( Linksys EA8100)
Local network IPv4 address: 192.168.0.2
DHCP: Disabled
IPv4 connection type: Bridge
IPv6: Disconnected

- did you set the gateway for router 2 to .1
- on your computer, what is the output for ipconfig /all?

New setup done.
Added Ubiquiti Flex Mini 5p Switch
Left 2nd ISP for Dual WAN havent setup yet.

Hey bro, i am very interested in your setup because i feel it's the same layout with my upcoming house. May I know where did you purchase the ubiquiti devices? And for the G3 flex camera, did you drill the screw into the ceiling there?

Omg I cant thank you guys enough, thank you for taking the time to guide me through this process.
Resetting Router #1 did the trick. However I didnt change any of the setting, like the DHCP range etc. Should I leave it @ 100-199 or swap it to 51 - 254?

Finally dont have ethernet cables running across my living room. :s12::s12:

For dhcp range, if you less than 100 clients, it would not have an impact. It would be even possible even if you configure 10-254 as well, since you are only assigned .1 and .2 as static ip and leaving .3 to .9 for future use.

Bought all from bizgram. No drill or screw. Just use 3M tape stick to ceiling. Its velcro. Can easily remove.

Awesome repsol! Was hoping that i dun have to drill. good to know 3m velcro strong enough to hold the camera. So i guess for the camera, u pull the lan cable from tv console area up till that corner spot ?

ya. just pull LAN cable from TV area. All sticks with 3M velcro.
