I'm an ex-imac user (bootcamp;windows 7), converted to pc for past two years. but recently pc keep freezing and despite of uninstalling all programs prior to that, it didnt work ie time to change computer.

my concerns are

1. connection speed to external drives.

given that mac pro had limited storage. would usb3 or thunderbolt connection from mac pro to an external multibay hdd enclosure, be significantly slower than that of an internal drive in a pc?

2. usb power.

i didnt want to keep plugging off the usb connection to my printer and scanner. another two usb will be used for keyboard and mouse (both wireless). my past experience is the keyboard and mouse will not work if it is not directly plug into the pc/mac. and most devices cannot connect to the pc via a usb hub even if the hub is powered by a separate power source. is there any improvement over this problem over the past 1-2yrs with newer devices?

If you're worried about hard drive speed, go with a thunderbolt drive enclosure that can stack a few drives. A true thunderbolt connection is almost as fast a PCI.

But thunderbolt drive enclosures are expensive.

Can cash & carry? Are Mac Pros even stocked in shops? Or you planning to order & asked for it to be delivered to the shop & you go there collect?

Another qn: just out of curiosity, were the Mac Pros (regardless of the older/newer revision) applicable for those Lunar New Year special discounts this year, i.e. that 1-day special shopping event?

Still, I don't think the shops will stock them right? May I know which branch you inquired?
