Hi guys! I'm getting my new rig soon (yay!) this month! But I need some help because I'm a newb :( PC is for gaming, watching movies and software like Word and Powerpoint and Excel. No overclocking or photoshop kind of thing. :)

My budget is around $1,500 (not including peripherals or monitor). Hoping to play games like The Witcher 3, Far Cry 4 and other graphics-intensive titles smoothly at the highest settings :D Please include a method to connect to the internet too!

Any recommendations? Thanks!

PS. I would also appreciate it if someone can recommend a good speaker, as well as a monitor. For the monitor I'm looking at Dell S2340L and Benq RL2455HM, which is heavily discounted at X-treme Solution. Or if there's a better one out there, can you please tell me about it?

THANKS SO MUCH :D

CPU+ Mobo: MSI B85-G41 PC MATE + i5 4460 (355)
RAM: G.SKILL RIPJAWS-X 1600MHZ ( 4GBx2pcs ) CL9 (115)
GPU: ZOTAC GTX 970 4GB TWIN FAN (509)
SSD: CRUCIAL MX100 256GB (160)
HDD: TOSHIBA 1TB 7200RPM (69)
DVD-RW: LG 24X DVD-RW SATA OEM (25)
PSU: SEASONIC S12G-Non MODULAR 550W (105)
Case: CORSAIR 200R (85)
OS: WINDOWS 7 HOME PREM (120)
Speakers: HI-VI SWAN M10 (119)

Total cost: $1662

Buy at PC Themes, #04-15, and ask for discounts. DIY yourself. If you can't into DIY, get PC Themes to assemble for you for a fee.

Notes:

1) The GTX 970 is good enough to play most games smoothly at max settings at 1080p.

2) Consider buying the GTX 970 from lazada.com and get a 10% discount when you use the code 'FLASH10' during purchase.

3) The Swan M10 speakers are rumoured to be a set of good speakers and the speakers are added to the build. Your experience may vary as opinions on sound quality varies with people and you may go to Cybermind to test these speakers out.

4) The Dell S2340L might be better as it uses an IPS panel for better color reproduction in contrast to the TN panel of the BenQ and is cheaper. You may want to go to SLS and take a good look at the monitors before buying anything, though.

5) To connect to the Internet, use a ethernet cable and connect one end to the LAN port on the motherboard. Connect the other end to your modem/router for a Internet connection.

Thanks so much! :D just another question. Does the case come with fans? Or do I have to purchase fans myself? I'm not sure because the case has slots of space for fans, and I kinda doubt they will provide it for free heheh

The Corsair 200R does come with 2X 120mm fans, one in front and one at the back.

I see. So I will have to get some extra fans then. Thanks again! :D
if you are not overclocking, it's not really necessary to get all the fans. the fan on the case itself is enough. your parts won't overheat.

Btw Alternative X, I forgot to ask, but since my router is in a separate room from the one I'm going to use my PC in, should I get another router to place in my room for fastest connection speed?

Either you use a long LAN cable to connect from router to your PC or u get a wireless adaptor for your PC.

Use long lan cable to get the best connection speed, like what i did at home, although the cable is 6m but still getting the best connection as compared to using wifi adaptor

But my router is in the living room, which is about 10m from my room. You mean I should connect a cable from the living room to my room? But that's not really practical D:

It is pratical if you insist on good and reliable ping for gaming.

And there are people whom does that. And it is to go by trunking all the way till your room.

I see. But if I probably won't do that because the cable may trip people heheh. Will placing a second router in my room and connecting it to my PC get the same effect? Thanks in advance! :D

You can always use a trunking to hide all the cables to your room. That is the best way to get it done.

Going through a router wont do any good.

Trunking huh, more to spend on T_T I guess I'll just use an adapter for now. Most of the games I play are Single Player anyway haha. Thanks so much!

Trunking not ex lah. About $2-$3.5 for a stretch of 2m IIRC.

Is the time you take that might need to cut etc.
