NLT has no service order to configure the fibre deployment on backend side, they merely provide the infrastructure such as the fibre cable and where the internet exchange is.

However, the CSO is also right to say that once your unit has been configured for ONR, it is impossible to roll back to ONT. I only had seen one lucky user who managed to convince singtel to configure it in ONT mode and that he himself should have already been warned of consequences of such arrangement.

m1 and singtel issues ONR for 2gbps and above speed plans as well, not too sure of starhub.

If you have any questions, do drop singtel a PM over here, i have gotten my questions/requests solved via this channel too..
M1 provides an ONT for their 2gbps and above plan

multi-network

previously they called it an ONR causing alot of confusion regarding if a router was needed.

Starhub should be providing an ONT as well.

Whizcomms, viewquest both give ONRs as well but they can be set to bridge mode allowing them to function as an ONT

Just curious, does this ONT itself provide wireless?

Saw "SINGTEL(5G)-23F" on my wireless network & wondering is it coming from the ONT or the AC 1900.

Thanks

definitely from your ac1900. ONT doesn't provide wireless.

bump this thread due to keyword HG8244H search...

i am undergoing new signup for singtel fibre 1gpbs + MioTV and I had asked ST CSO for my case and is confirmed the equipment i will be issued will be the Huawei ONR HG8244H.

The CSO kinda assured me that I can use 3rd party router to connect to this ONR since all along I am skeptical with the wireless performance of singtel issued routers and I intend to switch off it's wireless signal and use my own asus wireless router. I can even connect the ST HD DVR to 3rd party router with vlan configured correctly OR connect 3rd party router and singtel STB to the huawei ONR. Something like this ONR will be working as bridge mode just like any early days of ONT.

Can someone confirm that they have setup 3rd party routers to work properly on this huawei ONR? I know of how to configure the singtel vlan preset for asus router. but i'm not too sure what to look out for to configure for this huawei ONR, headache one more equipment to configure unlike ONTs which are not able to be configured. :(

Yes you can use 3rd party router with the ONR if your 3rd party router can be as configure as AP. No vlan configurations needed.

That also means your 3rd party router is wasted if you have a good one since it can only function as wireless AP and the ONR is the router. If you look at the above ONR vs ONT thread, power users prefer ONT. ONR can not be configured as bridge for 1Gbps/2Gbps plan, only Port 4 of the 1+1 Gamer plan can be configured as bridge mode.

For home user, you don't use a router behind another router !!!
That is as good as asking for trouble.

I am using my Asus with the SingTel ONR connecting via ethernet port instead of WAN port

After which, some configuration settings need to be setup via the Asus router such as enable dual WAN with the connected port as primary WAN and secondary as failover

Another method which I have yet to try out, disable DHCP in your third party router and assign it with a static IP within the same subnet.

Example if your ONR is 192.168.1.254, configure. Your third party router in the range of 192.168.1.X

Singtel is not targeting for Power Users.
If you are a power user, it is best to look else where.
You want to use a 3rd party router, you are on your own.
Make sure you know how to configure your device inside out and troubleshoot yourself.

I have Asus AC-RT66U. Intending to use that as the 3rd party router to replace any singtel issued router.

It is okay, in this case you can configure Asus AC-RT66U as wireless AP, connect its WAN port to one of the ONR port.

Keep the SingTel issued AC Plus (which will automatically operate in AP mode when connected to ONR) for troubleshooting purposes or other use case.

Your Asus is pretty old model so not that wasted.

Okie......sounds scary when it's not advisable to "use a router behind router"

So in this case will the AC-RT66U functions of a router be like "wasted" because all routing is dependant on a ONR?

Wife’s direction is more important. Haha.

And your Asus is now considered as a Low end one so not really that wasted to function as an AP.

In that case, stick to my previous post on enable dual. WAN under WAN setting.

You mean this for RT-AC66U
https://event.asus.com/2012/nw/dummy_ui/en/Advanced_WANPort_Content.html

AC66U original WAN Port not Connecticut to
anything. One AC66U Ethernet port connected to the ONR port and configure as primary WAN port, but then the secondary WAN is not connected to anything right? And there is nothing to fail over.

What is the real benefit with all the complications? I think it is easier just configure the AC-66U as an AP.

If it is an RT-AC86U/88U or better, then probably it is more worth to explore other options than just AP.

U got to keep all the features such as aiprotect, security protection, parental control etc...

However if u set the Asus to AP, by default all the features will be disable

Still you will have the problem of things connected to your ASUS will not be able to see things connected to the ONR, in this case it may not be important since you can just connect the SingTel TV box to ONR and everything else to Asus (wired or wireless). Is this correct?

Any other settings you need to do other than dual WAN?
