Thank you all for all the answers. I'm leaning towards note 8.0 finally.

Is it possible to play full hd movies with an app and without converting them to 720p? (MX player maybe?)

Nexus 7 has a button on display that shows the running apps. Is there such a shortcut for note 8? I find it quite useful for switching between apps.

No need to convert to 720p - the video player (MX is excellent) will automatically down-convert to fit the screen.

As for the running apps shortcut, it is a standard feature of the android software and is not hardware dependent

To avoid being fleeced by shops offering too high or unbelievably low prices, have a look at the prices of The Open Surface or Mobilesquare (just Google for them)

Generally you will be able to play almost any file but once ina blue moon you may run into lagging video or incompatibility due to videos with exotic/rare codecs or encoded with very high bit-rates.

The app switching function is built in for all Android devices. But for Note 8.0 ( out of box stock OS), rather than an onscreen button, you will need to hold down the physical home button to invoke the running apps function.

I admit I have not personally bought anything from them but I have read lots of posts from others who have and have not seen any "stay away from this shop" warnings yet so I guess they are legit. Also, the price of S$459 while cheap is still believable unlike the ridiculous $399 which you can get quoted by Chinatown shops.

But after all those scam cases, I would still be careful and make sure that there are no suspicious clauses in the invoice (don't sign anything) and that the goods are in your hands before you pay over the money!

P.S. BTW, i think you should call Mobilesquare to tell them the model you are interested in before visiting the shop. I think they keep their prices low by not keeping much stocks and only bringing in items when someone wants to buy. Effectively they just act as a middleman to buy at dealer's price and sell at a slight profit without tying down capital.

Perhaps, if you decide to get from mobilesquare, you can later post your experience here (on customer service etc) so that we can all benefit
