To be fair they need money to maintain the servers.
What isnt right is them making us pay for this to have some sort of backup capabilities

Point is paid PS+ is not the ONLY way to backup your save files. You can simply plug in any USB storage device to copy/restore.Playstation PS PLUS cloud save service also paid

This.
I'm think it's fair to pay for cloud save, since as I've mentioned. Money is needed to maintain the server.
But it is not right to not give consumer the option to do a local backup.

Exactly. And while it is easy for people in Singapore to be perpetually connected to internet, other countries may not be so lucky. From usability standpoint, they should really have given us some level of offline backup function.but I'm not very favorable to nintendo's cloud save. I've forgotten to renew my ps+ before... imagine I forgot to renew my nintendo online... wah lau... 7 days only, they delete the save files.

"If a Nintendo Switch Online membership expires, users won’t be able to access their Save Data Cloud backups. However, Nintendo will allow users who resubscribe within 180 days to access their previous Save Data Cloud backups," the Nintendo spokesperson said.

Wah thanks for the info man, seems like i have to subscribe liao for insurance sakeBecause the saves are stored in Switch's internal memory and cannot be copied out to the SD Card, so if your Switch spoils or can no longer start up, without cloud save, all your progress is lost.
If you have cloud save, at least when you get a replacement Switch, you can restore your saves and progress.
