the best decision is removing the disc drive. My Wii has problem with the disc drive within a year, have to insert/eject a few times before it can read my game discs properly. I believe it is due to the disc drive trying to handle 2 sizes of discs. Didn't bother to send for repair since it still works, and Maxsoft warranty is kinda dubious, they said send back to the shop or something.
Fact still remains, this is the first handheld with console processors (even though detail specs are not revealed yet), so heat management is going to be important when cramped inside a small form factor. The Xbox 360 looks very sturdy too, who (certainly not Microsoft) would have thought it could overheat and RROD? The problem only surfaced after many months, a year even, when warranty was over (MS had to extend warranty for RROD cases). Similarly for Samsung Note 7.
Sh*t happens with electronics. Sh*t hitting the fan is not distributed equally, so not everyone will get hit. It's a matter of risk. I've imported consoles like PS4, PS3, NDS XL and lots of accessories myself, no problem. The Switch has some design properties (heat, flimsy stand, etc) that makes it higher risk if not handled well.
has he figured out how to change User ID yet?

ipod, iphone, mobile phones, psp, vita, 3ds... they are passive cooling, meaning the cpu/gpu does not generate too much heat, no fan needed. ps4, ps3, xbox one, laptops (and now possibly switch) generate a lot of heat and requires active cooling.Did you do this before launch of iPod, iPhone, PSVR too?
I'm sure a lot of people have reservations about Switch (library, online, specs, account, etc.), but speculating whether it'll be able to last 2-3 years is a bit much imo. I'm quite sure Nintendo has their own QA team.
Outside of some outliers like the ones you mentioned, most new gadgets work just fine.

Ya I have not pre-ordered. Not so much for the possible defects, but mainly becos the lack of games. After Zelda there is nothing for me for months. And also all the uncertainties related to online, regions, accounts, DLCs etc. Might as well wait, maybe Zelda and even the switch is cheaper by then. But some of the deals are tempting, and they get better and better, so maybe last minute will reserve if a good deal is available without jumping through hoops (with coupons and certain bank cc rebates etc). Most likely will wait though.the best decision is removing the disc drive.
guess you didnt reserve 1 right? since so many doubts. yeah man. the demand here not that high, so no hurry to rush.
wont be surprised if there are some major defects. remember the consoles are already sent out for reviews. if there are defects, Nintendo would know about it and pull everything (including their market price) back.

I am very sure Microsoft and Samsung have their own QA teams too and have done extensive testing, and sent review units out to various sites too. History speaks for itself.
If you think speculating that it will not last 2-3 years is a bit much, so is speculating that it will last 2-3 years -- they are all speculation! I am just pointing out the potential points of failure, not predicting end of the world or anything. Each individual decides based on their own speculation, and financial status, whether to take the risk.
Too bad for me can't cancel lazada order
