There is a degree for Social work.
Wanting to help the society doesn't mean the social worker should not get paid or get shitty allowance.

Everyone's expectation of "reasonable pay" is different.
One good way is to ask how many % is used for admin before donating. They have such figures available.
Anything above 80% is quite good.

If it is me, I will make sure I am financially ok before I go full time into NGO/ NPO/ charity work.

So you will have a number of top guys in such organisations who are already rich or are generating income from their other businesses/ investments.

As for professional managers, if you are the board directors of, say, NKF, with > $150M annual income and > $150M annual expenditure and > $400M assets, won't you want to leave the top jobs for qualified people?
