TL;DR
  • We’ve spotted clues around three upcoming Nothing smartphones, presumably the Nothing Phone 3a, Phone 3a Plus, and the CMF Phone 2.
  • The Nothing Phone 3a and 3a Plus could sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 SoC, while the CMF Phone 2 could stick with a MediaTek SoC.
  • The Phone 3a could adopt a telephoto camera, while the 3a Plus could upgrade to a periscope zoom.

Nothing has managed to create some well-deserved hype in the smartphone space with its unique focus on style without compromising substance. We’re eagerly waiting to see what future phones like the Nothing Phone 3 bring to the table. But before we can get to the top of the pack, we’ve spotted clues on some of the specs of the company’s budget offerings, presumably the Nothing Phone 3a, Phone 3a Plus, and the CMF Phone 2.

Thanks to the latest Nothing OS 3.0 builds based on Android 15, we spotted clues related to certain specifications and other details of upcoming Nothing smartphones.

We spotted the codenames asteroids, asteroids_plus, and galaga, which could likely be related to upcoming Nothing phones. Based on benchmark leaks, these codenames are said to be for the Nothing Phone 3a (asteroids), Nothing Phone 3a Plus (asteroids_plus), and the CMF Phone 2 (galaga).
Further, we’ve spotted plenty of clues indicating that the Nothing Phone 3a and Phone 3a Plus will be equipped with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 SoC, while the CMF Phone 2 will run a MediaTek SoC.
Beyond the SoC, we’ve spotted further clues that indicate the Phone 3a could come with a telephoto camera, while the Phone 3a Plus could opt for a periscope zoom camera. If this pans out, then the Phone 3a series could be the first in the Nothing lineup to switch to dedicated sensors for optical zoom, as previous Nothing Phones have come with a wide and ultrawide rear camera setup.
We also spotted clues for another interesting change — the Nothing Phone 3a and Phone 3a Plus could be the first phones from the company to come with eSIM support. Users will likely be able to use two physical nano-SIMs or an eSIM with a physical nano-SIM for dual-SIM configurations. However, this is unlikely to extend to the CMF Phone 2, which will likely stick to physical SIM only.
We’re still looking for clues to learn more about Nothing’s upcoming lineup. We’ll keep you updated when we find out.

Hey everyone!

I’m excited to share more pictures of what I’ve been working on. I’ve made a decent attempt to bring out a true color render, but due to my limited hardware capabilities, my PC crashed multiple times during the process. Nonetheless, here are some (half-cooked) images of an imaginary, non-official, fanboy design for a “What If?” scenario: the Nothing Phone 3(a). Presenting the world’s first buttonless phone! Yes, there are literally no buttons anywhere.

Nothing is prepping for a launch event in March and it’s expected that it’ll see the launch of either Nothing Phone (3), Phone (3a), or perhaps even both. As the rumor mill continues to swirl, a new teaser hints at the first telephoto camera on a Nothing Phone, while the Nothing Phone (3a)’s specs may have leaked including a bigger display.

Every Nothing Phone model to date has had just two rear cameras. One as a standard wide-angle, and one ultra wide-angle. With no telephoto hardware available, zoom on Nothing Phones has always been handled by digital zoom, leaving them far behind most competitors in this aspect.

In a teaser on Twitter/X, Nothing shows a brief video zooming in on Carl Pei, with the distinct side effect of the phone swapping over to another lens a little over halfway through. It’s hard to tell the point where the new lens takes over, but it seems to be around 2-3x.

This could be from the Nothing Phone (3), but it’s increasingly looking like this will be for Nothing Phone (3a) instead.

It was previously reported that Phone (3a) would be swapping over to a Qualcomm chip and that both Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Plus would be adopting telephoto cameras. A further spec leak this week claims that Phone (3a) will be powered by Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, have a larger 6.8-inch display, two 50MP cameras for primary and telephoto lens backed up by an 8MP ultrawide and a 32MP selfie camera, and have the same 5,000 mAh battery as the prior model. Apparently, it may also deliver Nothing OS “3.1,” an update on top of Nothing’s Android 15 skin.

We’ll likely learn more as Nothing’s March 4 event nears.

Nothing has confirmed that its March 4 event will be for the Nothing Phone (3a), with more than one phone potentially coming, and leaks showing off a camera module that looks pretty similar to Pixel.

In a post on Twitter/X, Nothing says that the “Phone (3a) series” is coming on March 4, putting an end to the question of whether or not this launch will be for the company’s budget or flagship devices. The use of the word “series” implies that more than one device is launching at once, which could mean that we’ll see both Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Plus if Nothing follows the same monikers as the previous generation (though hopefully with much more to differentiate the two this time).

A brief teaser video hints that the design of Nothing Phone (3a) will be quite similar to Phone (2a) with a centered camera module surrounded by three “Glyph” lighting sections.

Nothing’s co-founder explains the focus for the Phone (3a) series:

For the (a) Series we have a different set of users. When people buy a smartphone some are looking for the greatest specs, they want the latest innovations and processors. Yet there are some other users that are equally excited about tech, but are happy with just a great user experience – that’s who the (a) Series is for. We’re really focused on the core user needs in terms of camera, screen, processor, and of course design.

Beyond that, a leaked hands-on image of Nothing Phone (3a) offers a better look at the new camera module. There’s the existing section with two lenses, as well as a third lens which is thought to be a telephoto, especially based on Nothing’s teasers.

While the image shared by @saaaanjjjuuu on Twitter/X shows the device in a case meant to conceal the design, the camera module still shines through, and looks a whole lot like Google’s Pixel camera module design. Specifically, it matches the Pixel 7 Pro’s design pretty closely. Of course, the final design will probably look quite different.
