Hi guys, my boyfriend recently went into Army on the 12May 2018 and i’m really new to all these so can anyone share their experience of going to NS with PES A? Like basically what he is going to be doing and you already went through it? (Best to share from confinement all the way to ORD?) I would also like to know if the army period is a full 2 years or 18 -22 months? Thankyou!!🥇👍🏻

If he have passed his ippt before enlistment , he will probably serve 1 year 10 months if he didn't? He will serve the full 2 year's. Considering that he's pes a , he will likely be posted to a combat role vocation in the SAF. If he's in a a level / poly graduate he will also have chances of becoming a commandet - sergeant or a officer cadet after he's done with his bmt.

Heyy thanks for the reply! He is in the armor company and after his POP he gets to choose his vocations right, i heard there will be some selections that will not be available for him like the navy and the airforce , so does that mean he gets to choose the rest ? I really do not want him to be posted overseas for any training, i’m already trying to cope it here in sg. And i heard if you remain as a armor soldier then you’ll be posted overseas like everybody. I don’t want that.

So you are saying he is in Armour Company. Unless there is a change in naming convention of companies in BMT, I will assume Armour as in the vocation Armour. I also assume that he would ha been in the batch that would have allowed him to choose his vocation and it seems like he might have picked Armour. So I don't think he gets to choose after his POP, but he has already chosen... So your question about choosing is no longer valid.

Sad to say, as much as you don't want, if it is required, it is required. I don't know what you can do.

But he may not be "POSTED", but may have to go overseas for training for like a relatively short period of time.

actually armour is quite slack one. esp when you are sgts. your job is to ask your men clean the tank. you can go hide somewhere and lepak while they clean for you.

Wa bus-3rd sia. During my time a few years ago, is sgts ask men to go back wash up, they offer to wash themselves leh. Of course us men can't just dump them to do themselves too right? Everyone wants to clean up and faster gaodim, go wash up and go rest. Btw Armour sgts no time to lepak one. Need to account for and clean heavy weapons and vehicle equipment too.

If he got posted directly (i.e. mono intake) to an Armour unit, then most likely he'll stay in that same unit for his whole NS stint, even after his POP. And yes, Armour units will most likely be sent overseas once or twice for trainings/exercises, however not overseas deployment. Max 3-6 weeks only. Besides, if it's somewhere like Australia and your beau has free time, he can either use internet kiosk on camp site or mobile reception to contact home.

Btw you'll gradually cope with parting with him for longer periods as Armour units tend to train over weekends for long exercises (personal exp) due to training grounds being booked by other units for weekdays. Regardless if it's different now, what most likely remains is that he could be away for 4 days without any contact home.

So he's the new batch that just enlisted in Tekong. As one of the guy pointed out here , he probably belong to the mono intake batch, there's a slight chances of him being posted out of armour to other vocation and yes he might be sent to oversea to conduct exercise, countries such as Australia or Germany (min 3 weeks) but definitely no oversea deployment.

Then usually after bmt when they are posted to their own camps, i heard that there will be more freedom? Like some can book out everyday or so how about those in armor? Will there be such benefits? Or isit still every friday?

So how many people get to go overseas? Aprox? Cannot be everyone right? Must you be super outstanding and have a higher rank then can? Or its by random?

After posting to unit, the usual bookout schedule is almost the same as BMT post-confinement, Fri afternoon/evening. Combat units are almost always stay-in during weekdays, no daily bookouts. Although there's the occasional nights-out for a few hours in the evening, but we only got this privilege (take note of this, your bf will tell you about this, I'm sure) in our 2nd year in unit.

As reddevil mentioned, overseas exercises usually involve entire units, no matter the rank. If the training programme dictates the use of alien environments (as it affords more space and different climates), then units would be sent overseas for training.

At this point in time, I'm guess your beau will soon be out from his confinement period? You can get him to share his experience if he doesn't mind. Soon enough, I think you'd want him to stop talking about his army life actually! :s13:
