Hello Guys, is it true that each cohort only has 10 to 12 polytechnic students?

I scored a CGPA of 3.87 and Olevel: 13. Some of my friends got replies for NTU Maritime Studies, but till now I still have not get it. Are my chances low?

Please help me :(

Cohort size is small, around 84. You get to spend an entire semester in Norway. The course is a mix of business, economics and maritime law and regulations. Im not from maritime, but I know a few friends in there. Its not as difficult as engineering. You can see the curriculum here:

Curriculum Structure of BSc. in Maritime Studies for Admission AY2015/16

Omg the curriculum looks very good... Its like uncomparable to typical engineering. At most only semester 1 for year 1 you guys have 5 cores. Other than that its at most 3 COREs for both semester in year 2! Plus does all the cohort get to go to Norway in year 3? Gosh I feel like changing course now...

Hi, I'm not MrSinkie95, but I am a current undergraduate for Maritime Studies in NTU. If you have any questions, you can ask me :)

If not for my hatred for numbers and graphs, I would have did this years ago.
That said, how bad is the economics/engineering portion of things for a person like me that failed elementary maths x years ago? :s13:

U are from Poly or Jc
Does this course offer a good career progression?

Sent from sent from siao lang keng ward 69 using GAGT

Hi, I was from Poly.

For me, I felt that the course offers a good career progression.

Firstly, there is various scholarships under MaritimeONE up for grab. The MaritimeONE scholarship was launched by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF), Association of Singapore Marine Industries (ASMI) and Singapore Shipping Association (SSA). So, it is quite evident that government agency and maritime organisations are putting resources into this course.

Secondly, there are quite a number of networking sessions and industry talks held by the Maritime Business Society in NTU. Currently, there's about 4-6 talks being held. So, you will be exposed to professionals who are from the Maritime Industry. And, you might be able to obtain internship or job opportunities through these networking sessions.

Thirdly, trade, shipping and logistics is a necessity in this globalised world. Singapore - a global shipping hub - would surely require talents from this area.

Hope my answer is what you are looking for

Hi,

There's 2 math modules, 1 fundamental econs, shipping econs, and some other modules which might require calculations here and there.

Believe me, I also hate these modules :( I was from Poly, so as compared to JC students, I had much more problems with the math modules. But if you have A-math during your secondary school, I believe there is still a chance to ace it - which I did not manage to. HAHA! If you did not have any A-math background, it will be quite hard to learn. This is due to the short lecture and tutorial hours. But you can arrange consultation with the lecturers!

For Econs, I felt that it is quite manageable. Most of the concepts are more logical like 'when you have better technology, you produce more, and your supply increases' etc. As compared to E-math, I would say that econs is more logical and easier? I think?

Hope that my answers are what you are looking for :s13:

Hi, I am also currently applying for one! Didn't manage to get one when I was in Year 1 due to my bad interview skills. Hahah! But the good thing is that the portal is always open on April 1st of every year, so you will get to apply it even if you've failed the previous time :) You can also take a look at SGIS scholarship, but they are closed for this cycle already :)

For MaritimeOne, I believe they will interview all applicants, so you will get your chance to 'promote' yourself to the sponsors :) Jiayous!

Are you from Poly or JC?

My maths is so rotten I'm sure Rotten will feel very rotten about being compared to maths. I got either an E8 or F9 for A-maths which means I most probably will fail those modules.

Just to check, if my memory serves me right, NTU only gives 2 chances - ie first try and second try to clear a module right? If on the second try you still fail the supplementary paper then out you go?

Any peers with GPA of around 3.75 ?
How do they got in , via interview ?

Sent from sent from siao lang keng ward 69 using GAGT

Hmm, I think there is. If I'm not wrong, I have one friend who does not have diploma with merit getting into the course.

MS with Business Major would require a compulsory interview for poly grads (not sure for jc). But I don't think there's any interview for the normal MS course! :)

Unable to help you on that question! But for me, I'm really bad in that math module that I'm only able to truly answer 1 question, but I still managed to pass with a B. ><
