Hi Evilbear,

From the admission package, it was mentioned that you will be billed for that term (semester) (guess within 1-2 weeks after term starts). You can refer to the fees at here

I think it's better to clarify if you are paying the fees per semester or per year during registration. For full-time local students, S$7590 per year for info. studies program.

After a long absence from studies (>10yrs) :s13: , I am considering 3 modules max in semester 1, 4 in semester 2 and remaining 3 in semester 3. There's a Critical Inquiry module (group research project if you are taking the coursework program) that has to be completed by semester 2 i think.

anyone else taking the info studies FT program? :)

Hey there Evilbear.

A friend of mine has got an admit for the same program for FT.

Thought of asking few help from ur side.

She is an IT professional with 2 yrs of experience.

Now this program of information studies, will it help any way in her field of IT?

If not, what are the fields in which she can mold a career for herself, once she is done with this program successfully.

And how well is this program recognized there in singapore. I mean job prospects.

I can find that u are pretty well nourished in experience wise. So felt ur words can help a lot really.

Thanks in advance. :)

If I'm not wrong, it's based on semester and not based on modules. If you read into details of the fees payment, it does says that if you are left with only your dissertation and you choose to delay it, you'll still need to pay every semester even if you are not attending any modules.

I got the "Offered Admission" status via the website. I have not received the official letter via snail mail. I should wait for it first right?

I am doing the Msc in Infomation Systems. Yes we can arrange for carpooling privately, provided our timetable allow us to do that.:)

argg... i heard they are in the process of changing this system already because its really quite dumb to pay the same amount... not catering to working adults zzz...

Your friend is planning to venture in which field in the future?
In my opinion, this prog is too general, lack of specialization and no specific skills that most IT employers will look for..
As indicated in the ntu website, the potential career opportunities for this prog is webmaster, information analyst, school IT spec... doesn't sound very attractive haa...

They seriously need to consider removing Webmaster as possible career in the future. Webmaster sounds so geocities and fortunecity era making the above statement contradicting.

Anyway, Information Studies is becoming popular in the states with their government looking at Big Data and processing those data. Not too sure if it will eventually comes to our shore though.

I too am waiting for my admission package to come through snail mail . The website is updated to "Offered Admission " . I do agree that the program is general and opens up a lot of avenues in ones IT career . It offers a mix of soft and technical skills . I talked to a few ppl in Singapore and they said that there are lot of IT jobs on offer in Singapore . NTU website also shows the job prospects of NTU grads . People can also look at payscale website for IT prospects in Singapore . They depict the reality ( hopefully i believe ) :)
