NYP diploma in IT. thx Buaya_Hunter shushu

This program ah? : http://www.nyp.edu.sg/SIT/dit_main.html

According to this http://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/undergraduates/exemptions_poly.html#TableA, you are exempted from: CS1010, CS1020, CS2102 and CS2105

Assuming u didn't go for/fail the ma1301 test in july or don't have the following cert: http://ww1.math.nus.edu.sg/undergrad.aspx?file=stu-1301test,

ur most likely allocated combo would be:

IS1103 (Priority to IS ppl to take 1103 first)
IS1105
MA1301 (See above) / MA1521 (If u are exempted from MA1301)
CS1231 (That is IF u are exempted from MA1301 first)
ES1102 (If u fail the upcoming QET And they allocated it to u (some are only allocated ES1102 in the 2nd sem))

If some of those mod above don't apply to u, you are free to take other mods

i know, but i would like to know what modules will likely be pre-allocated to me in my very first sem. wld appreciate it if experienced SoC seniors could share their experience with their first sem.

tks alot.

Hi bro, because of the exemption thingy and so on, a lot of poly students don't rly follow and get the typical module allocation.... The JC student, on the hand, roughly have the same module allocation cos not many are gained exempetions

I think u will be be given

MA1301

I am not sure if u will be pre-allocated IS1103 and IS1105

ES1102 u are DEFINITELY going to bid because too many ppl fail qet (think ah tiongs)

i bid 4mods on my 1st sem btw i am from nyp DEI (but all 1 point de la)

first sem i wanna test water first. so i'll most likely be bidding for 1 ULR and 1 UE haha

ULR and UE not guranteed easier than core mod, depending on ur aptitude... Some of the more ULR and UE are so intensely popular that xing jiao got very slim chance to get one (When it is time for CORS, you can ask again)

Btw, u planning to do the IS program or the EC program?

Just to intro myself, I am a EC senior (one more sem to ord).

If u want to know the IS prospective, there is quite a few IS guy here. Like Mata Hippo and this fella by the nickname methylc. To a certain extent, you also can ask me cos I myself have do quite a number of IS side mod as core and UE...

hey guys i also from NYP. I have a diploma in IT.

there is really no guide for module bidding. i understand i am exempted from the 4 modules stated on the website.

however the question i would like to ask is:

assuming i am already allocated the compulsory modules (after getting my NUSNET id), how do i know which are the modules i need to take for IS year 1 so I can plan which to take in semester 1 and 2 including enrichment (or other) modules?

Assuming that you are from poly and is u have 20MC free + 4 Mods = 36 (please go and find out urself how many to - but 20mcs is definite)

University Requirements = 160 - 36 = 124

124 / 4 = 31 modules

To graduate you will need at least 31 modules to clear within 3.5 years

Compulsory(Delete all given credits)

To be awarded the Services Science, Management and Engineering Specialisation, students have to satisfy the following:

This is the last section
Either:

or
Three modules from IS4XXX modules from the above Programme Elective list

All poly graduates in SOC are to take the following:
1 Singapore Studies
1 GEM/GEK (but u are exempted from humanities gems)
1 Breadth (meaning must be outside of SOC)
2 UE (up to u to choose can be from SOC or Not - can also be used to fufill your specialization requirements)

so u have 31 modules
31-5 = 26 (above)
26 - 3 = (HYP (note must have at least average B+ (CAP 4.0)) or 3 IS mod = 23

From the 23 modules pick 7 for your electives

23-7 = 16 remaining, these 16 should be your compulsory mods, remainder will go to your electives

Of course you can choose to exceed 124 MCs no1 will stop you, you can take more, u can even extend to 4 years if u want..

Download this pdf :http://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/undergraduates/Others/SoC-Module-desc.pdf

everything in there,

Preclusion: You cannot take if
Pre-requisite: You must complete if u want to take

I think u will need to take

CS1020, IS1105, MA1301, ES1102 (If u fail QET), X and Y

Please do not take CS2100 in sem1 unless u are contemplating suicide..
Course schedule:
http://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/undergraduates/useful_course_schedule.html

The course schedule will tell u which mods are offered in which sem... u can guage from there

hi, i am from the IS program onto my semester 3 soon. Mgx did a pretty great explanation.. i guess u will need to tell us what u dun really understand?

anyway, i am a poly grad, i took the following during my 1st semester

IS1103
IS2102
MA1301
ES1102
GEK1527(ULR GEM)
EC1301(ULR breadth)

i was pre-allocated with MA1301, IS1103 and CS1102. I dropped CS1102 and bid for the other 4 modules

this is essentially what this thread is asking... BUT it seems like nobody knows the answer ):

Bro, uni not like poly, where u have ur stage with the fixed modules....

The system is flexible in the way that u clear this module, you in theory can take the next higher level mod next sem... (It is not strange to see yr 2 ppl take yr 4 mod and vice versa)

If u want to unlock max amount of IS mod within 1 yr, this is the list of module I advised u (based on ur case - exempted 1010/1020/2105/2102)to take in yr 1 in no particular order

MA1301 (I assume u don't have A lvl maths bg)
IS1103
IS1105 (IS1103 + IS1105 needed to unlock most of the higher IS mod)
IS2101 (In sem 1/2 if u want to take IS3102 in ur sem 3)
IS2103 (In sem 2 if u want to take IS3102 in ur sem 3 and IS4100 in ur sem4)
MA1521 or MA1312 (In ur sem 2 if u want to take ST2334 in ur sem 3/4 and subsquently IS4240 in ur sem 5)
IS3101 (If u want to unlock IS4203 in ur sem 3/4)

Optional
IS3230 (In sem 2 if u are going to specialise in security)

Of course if u have other intention like doing a minor, my list might not apply
