Nvidia driver problems?

The screenshot looks similar to mine. For my case, i see black flickering squares (about .5cm size). If I don't close my apps and raise GPU fan speed, I will get BSOD with nvlddmdm.sys error. The GPU temperature recorded at idle is around 42c while on load (i.e. gaming) is around 60c-70c+. This symtom can happen after 10mins of gaming (even with lowest settings) or normal surfing after about an hour. It really irritates me.

If i get one of such BSOD, I cannot restart immediately because the problem will still be there. Usually i need to wait for few hours to cool down the GPU? (which means i can only use on next day).

I am on palit gtx550ti (about 1yr old). This problem starts since i upgraded to 32X.xx drivers. According to another thread, it looks like i have insufficient power supply. Now i think its a combination of problems. Barely enough power supply and overheating card (due to driver??).

I hope i have not damaged my GPU yet.

your psu what power? I think is the driver problem... hahha

@ lai_cc, yours is a GTX550 Ti, it's a Fermi based GPU, so it can be damaged by the messed up nV drivers. Just in case, what's your PSU? DId this issue crop up before the driver update in the first place?

my psu is acbel 510. I recall that it started around the time i installed 32X.xx drivers.

I have rolled back to 316.xx driver. The problem is still there. I hope it is not damaged, but then i have tested it on another PC without problem.

If manufacturer's driver cannot be trusted, then who's driver can be trusted? sigh.

I think its just planned obsolesence at work.

Fermi consumer cards are EOL and the bulk of it dont have a valid warranty anymore. Got a friend who screwed up his 560 Ti.

Anyway, it encourages consumption, vendors benefit, Nvidia also benefit. There's a R319 driver stability thread on Nvidia's site but I think its largely wayang only.

ok, yesterday night, i tried to update my driver from 306.xx back to 320.49. My graphic output is reduced to black screen with some background white light after 30mins of lowest setting in COH2. That is, my GPU is damaged.

That damages my confidence on nVidia as well :/

Guys!! You should always always ALWAYS read up on forums and reviews before updating your graphics card drivers. Utmost importance.

I have seen countless people damage their cards or experience lower performance on older cards due to a new driver update.

A newer driver does not always mean better performance. It depends on what games you play and on what cards you are using.

I didn't upgrade my driver for close to 2 years on my old GTX 460(was on 285.62) because the newer 300 series drivers really degrade performance of older cards like Fermi and older.

And now the recent saga of 320 series up lorrying Fermi cards due to an overvoltage. Even some Kepler cards are having problems too from reports.

the lesson here is: Don't update your drivers if they are working well. Don't risk it. Update only if you are sure the new driver works well for your card and you are confident the performance increase is worthwhile for your precious investment.

Yea, i've learnt my lesson! but anyway i found out the cause of that is not the driver, its a bitcoin virus that caused it!

I was on 306.xx when the artifact (black squares on the screen) started to show up after normal gaming load. It was at the point that i started on driver upgrade which lead to more issues.

The only consolation i have is that it is not a >$300 card.
