Still works best with the Shield controller, especially the gamepad mapper.

This I cannot disagree but its the feeling of machiam having an all in one device with joystick connected that is most song.

Using a Sandisk Extreme Pro card (formatted as internal storage) but could not get a game to run on it.

Only after transferring to internal 16gb storage then can start the game... Seems like this problem is quite common...

My card has 90-95mb/s read and write... should be fast enough to handle gaming?

I read for micro sd, as long faster than 70mb is good enough but yet again, also read that people with the current micro sd card you own still face issues. I'm also contemplating on which micro sd card to actually hoot.

I think I will follow the advice to format it as external drive. The card I have is good enough for 4K recording... I doubt the device can even maximise the R/W speed. Maybe you should just get a Samsung Evo+ 128gb that's going around $50 on Qoo10...

Technically with adaptable storage is can. At least it works on my Shield TV.

But I dun use it on my Shield tablet. 32gb is enough for most of my needs. Everything else goes to the microsd card mounted as external storage.

I've switched to external storage and no problems ever since. Also monitoring the battery life... of course not as good as my iPad but still reasonable for a gaming device...

i'm intending on buying this tablet but would like to find out from anyone here if they have rooted their device?

and has it brought any improved performance?

been reading reviews and it seems like a decent device as it is. i'm a serial "rooter" and custom rom installer on all my android devices.

but with this i'm unsure if i should as i heard that google personally sees to it that the device receives regular updates to keep it "up to speed"

feedback from anyone would be appreciated

Improvements on custom roms, not much. Hardware wise it's not a multitasking beast - limited ram.

But there's also not many reasons deterring you from doing so. You can't use it for Android Pay, most custom roms have Nvidia's suite included anyway. No harm trying, you can revert easily. Personally, most custom roms introduce more bugs rather than fix stuff, so I prefer stock....and I'm too lazy to play with roms anymore.

It's not Google, this isn't Pixel or Nexus. Nvidia has done a good job of updating this tablet from Lollipop to Nougat. Roms are updated to keep up with Nvidia's releases anyway.

u rooter? I'm a flasher. Lol. I can flash every few weeks to try out different ROM but that's on my mobile phone.

For k1, i have tried quite a few ROMs so far. But now using AICP on 7.1. Pretty sleek and minimalist. Prefer this over stock. I feel battery life is better too. Stock got more crap installed over this.

Since I'm not using it for any intensive apps or games, I've since switched to battery saver mode to play my online android games. Battery is lasting even longer now with very decent performance...

Now waiting for the original tablet cover, cheap china casing and tempered glass to arrive...

I have Tesla running on my device.
Didn't use the stock much so cannot compare, first day already root and flash. Currently I cannot use the camera but not too much a problem to me.

Performance-wise, I usually have my homescreen redrawn when I exit apps. Should be the low RAM. But my previous N7 2013 no such problem. Maybe the memory management?

I think for performance tweaking stuff the stock ROM is better as they have the options for that.

This tablet the dev support not as good as N7 2013 to me. Tesla's kernel not as exciting as Elemental X, the BitO kernel just starting on 7 though. (Didn't go for AICP as it doesn't seem to have quick PIN unlock )

The switch from Marshmellow to Nougat also bring a slowdown to all the dev, also stuff tend to be a bit unstable in the switching phase.

Today got talk about a codename "Taimen" device supposedly coming from Google later this year. People say its big screen. Some say its phone, some say could be tablet. (Yesterday got codename "Walleye" and "Muskie" for Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL)
