Can someone explain what is that arrow pointing at the small holes on the brake rotors in one of the close up pics on the brake rotor trying to indicate? Don't understand what is it saying.

hiya to all the cycling euthusiasts here..

i've seen/read your "field trips" to ECP, punggol and LCK and i'm really keen to invest in my 1st bike.. i did some reading on parts and frames, HT/ST, trail/on-road.. i've some doubts and would like to seek opinions from the bros here.

fact : i'm not the trail kind..after i get my bike, most probably i'd join you all if possible, for the on-road field trips.

so..
1) will a $300ish range mtb (GT aggressor) suit a beginner like me?
2) is it practical to get a disc brake/disc brake ready bike? or v-brakes good enuff?
3) is it advisable go to shops like tionghin/L&T to get a bike? since my knowledge about bikes and parts is rather limited..
4) or will it be more personal to get help from bro(s) here to build up a bike from scratch?
5) will building from scratch cost more than a pre-built one in shops?

my budget should be about 250 to 300ish. 400 max if i can scrimp and save to up my budget.

hello. im also interested in building a bike. but i must admit, its really good in blowing your budget. be prepared to spend well over 1k if u intend to build a bike...

1) depends on ur budget, if u have $300 only, aggressor is good enough
2) of cos its better to have disc ready bike, more future proof
3) yes, those are reputable shops
4) u will need to have substantial knowledge to build ur own bike, of cos we will help in advicing if possible
5) on a norm, yes. again it depends on ur budget. building ur own bike will give u a choice to choose ur own parts which is better then pre built ones as you may not like all the parts.

yea, seems like it cos of my budget.. get a bike first then slowly work on it.. since hobbies are suppose to be enjoyed and upgrading progress can come later..

hey ya, no problem with tat.

one hill still got another higher hill, the $ i spent on my bike is just peanuts to many of the cyclist out there.

i also dunno how to classify my frens' bikes, we just ride with wat we have.

as i said, the $300 budget will only allow an aggressor but if u were to up $500~, u can get an avalance 3.0, however i doubt tat these models will be disc ready.

Ahh i see.. okays, i live in jurong too, jurong west to be exact.. so if i get a bike anytime soon, i would most probably ride back from where i buy the bike..

i shall find time to visit the few shops as mentioned and get a better idea of what i should expect.. thanks for your advice and i'll stick around here to check out all the drool-worthy biking trips you guys are going on in the future.. till then, i shall work towards getting my 1st bike.

btw, in what order does the prices vary for the different numbered models? like ava 1.0, 2.0 etc... by impression, i read somewhere, higher number = lower price?

Depends on the different brands. Each have their own system for grading their products.
For example..For Scotts, GT is the higher the number, the lower the specs.
But for Wheeler, Jamis...the higher the number, the higher the specs.
With higher specs, so will the price be higher.

fit is everything. if the bike dun fit, have the best components also wun help in ur riding.

when purchasing the bike, rmb to 'feel', whether the bike fits u anot.

any hubs to intro?

or is the mavic crossride a good one altogether?

i am also thinking..how much will a brand new 717 with xt hubs and spokes cost?

where will be a gd place and cheap place to buy these wheels?

Go with Mavic 717 rim and Dt spokes and u will not go wrong!
