i'm looking for an entry level hardtail MTB. probably distance riding and occasionally off road trails. did some research, seems that most riders recommend GT avalanche. need some advise and recommendations.

how about these ...raleigh m20? hasa comp? jamis x trail? or GT avalanche?

my budget around 300-500. thanks in advance

yes there are. if quality isn't an issue, you can opt and search around those bike shops in your area. cash converters, carrefour, giant supermkt.

most offers are from aleoca, which i personally had a wonderful 20mins experience. thereafter, the spooks gave way to my weight and the saddle broke off.

i've narrowed my selections to diamondback response and wheeler 19. i suppose they are within my budget <500.

i find the welding workmanship for diamondback abit coarse. any sounding piece of advice?

Sure bo? My father bought an $69.90 aleoca 18 multi speed. Yes, the shifter is crappy but none of as bad as u mention. Used for 5 years on short commute, no problem at all until one garang guni thief decide to help us clear it.

Check yr less than $100 bicycle well/inspect it thoroughly before u pay for the bicycle.

im coming from GT background, well all i can say is, GT avalanche is kinda heavy stock, but changing some parts here and there, will help shed some weight. that being said, changing too many parts, it will cost more then the frame alone. GT frame alone is like 200+ max ?

i use to ride the gt, did some minor drops, offroads, no problem , the bike is very sturdy, and i'm a heavy rider, i highly recommend the GT to riders trying out the sport. the frame can easily last you for like 3-4 years. mine lasted 2.5 years, till i got a serious bite from the "bike-upgrade-bug" and switched to a new bike. pls dont bother with hasa, parts that comes with it varies from different stalls, regardless of what is posted on their website.

so GT avalanche gets my biased vote~ haha.

Avanti bikes at Chapter2Cycle are also very worth the money now. Cheaper than GT Avas too.

However, the best bikes you can get for any kind of money are from Polygon. Don't stick your nose up just because they're Indonesian and are cheap. You won't find this kind of value even from GT Avalanches. I'd much, much rather ride a Polygon than an overpriced GT.

avaanche gets my vote also, actually the frame is not very heavy, 1.8+kg, dunno y ppl keep saying they are heavy, i have seen many sub 11kg race worthy avalanches. very stiff, very nice geometry also, and definately trashable. just get the correct size.
the best part, someone wrote in to gt and verified that it can take 130mm upfront.
Polygon bikes are basically, buy parts, free frame, do ur maths

autosol is good. But if u can't reach some spot. spray WD40 and use brush to try brush it off.

its called XC riding, yes u can get a bike for <$500. GT avalanches 3.0 at best 2.0 with vee-brakes.
