Just wanted to get some feedback from you guys, is taking half days to attend interviews very obvious?

especially if you take it once or twice a week?
I did hear a colleague saying this about another colleague

“see ppl take half day leave is a sign that they’re going for interviews. So xxx has been going for interviews on <date>”

but then again some ppl like to take PM leave so they force themselves to wake up and work in the morning, ensuring their PM leave is not wasted on sleeping in if they had taken 1 day leave instead.

there are many other reasons why people take PM leave

most job interviews are online also, don't even need to take leave

just do it during lunch or arrange it on WFH days

History will judge SG decision/stance on SEZ and RTS with the harshest condemnation

Even if take 1 full day also will have people say is "go interview". Can't stop their mouths.

aiya all they can do is speculate. They also can't action on it except if they find evidence...

even if colleagues or boss knows you are attending interviews, what can they do? If you are good, they will try address your concern on why you look to leave. If you are average, they just prepare to hire when you quit. If you are doing an okay job, they wouldn't actively force you out... at most is just prepare contingency and handovers.

Accountancy getting mentioned in this reddit thread :(

CheekyWanker00718h ago
accounting is no longer iron rice bowl, and is being flooded with malaysian graduates coming over and suppressing pay while hours are still over 60 a week

eastwind112719h ago
accounting is getting destroyed by automation right now and cheap labour from neighbouring countries. BUT is a good opener to specialise into tax or audit (slog it out in the big 4s, and GTFO to in house for better WLB)

3. Accounting is pretty much one of the worst fields to take in present day. Employers see it as a cost centre so you're almost guaranteed to work on a skeleton crew with poor work life balance. It's not an exaggeration to say that majority of accounts-related jobs are currently being filled by Malaysians who would happily accept $2.5k-3k for entry-level roles. The salary of an accountant is also generally low for SMEs, which are the majority of jobs out there.
On the other hand, Finance is big money. If you find yourself capable or lucky enough to secure work in Finance, that's a very viable option for a high income. Work life balance is generally as terrible as accounting, but pay can easily be 2-3x as much.
