KEY IDEA

Singapore Strategy: Bumpy road ahead, but opportunities exist
Market sentiment in 2015 was dragged down by several key events including Yuan devaluation, the sell-down in Chinese equities, slower growth from Emerging Markets and weakness in commodities. The uncertainty on the pace and level of the next rate hike throughout 2015 also created added volatility in the market and led to wide price fluctuations in the market at each FOMC meeting. Current valuations are close to trough valuations, largely because the market is pricing in greater uncertainty ahead. At current levels, the STI is trading at 11.9x earnings, 1.1x book and with an average dividend yield of 4.3% for FY16. These levels are now close to the levels seen in the previous two crises in 2008/09 and 2011 and we believe this is not warranted. We continue to favor AREIT, CapitaLand, CapitaLand Mall Trust, DBS, Frasers Centrepoint Trust (FCT), Keppel DC REIT, QAF, Raffles Medical, Sheng Siong, Singapore Post, SingTel, ST Engineering, Thai Bev, UOL, Venture and Wing Tai. Breakfast doesn't cost much, bread, egg, coffee? Ownself made sandwich also can.
Lunch can eat $3-$5, Dinner is home-cooked.

Haha I think I totally opposite of you, like to have heavy breakfast (about $3 to $6, depending on whether it's a Starbucks Breakfast day or not) and light lunch ($3). Dinner eat home-cooked food.

Yes you are right! I carry water bottle in my bag all the time. Top up from water dispenser when empty. Occasionally, make myself hot milo from pantry. Generally I don't buy drinks outside. I realise can really save a lot.

Say I buy soya bean for breakfast at $0.80, bottled 100 plus at $2 for lunch, canned Coke for dinner at $1.50. That's already $4.30 per day, times 20 working days, that's $86 per month, $1032 per year! Can hoot 3 lots of ES3 liao

(I have a reputation of being a kiam siap among my gf clique, but who cares)

Wah so much drinks? I usually buy drinks only when I eat outside...when eating home meals, hardly buy any.

Moi bank loan all tag with mortgage insurance, but not that demanding.
like SG mortgage insurance(covers 920K sgd), only around 7xx per year, which is around 60 plus per month.

Malaysia d, also tag with Ringgit 1 million insurance(similar to life), one month around 450 ringgit(which is 150 sgd), another house with MRTA(similar to term insurance)800 plus K, one month quite cheap(i forget how much, but definitely much cheaper than life insurance), left one house uncovered. The life one won't decrease in value, so eventually can use that life 1 million insurance to cover another property loan.

My sg life insurance only 100K, then endowment around 18K coverage only.
Yeah debt insurance is a must, if anything happens to you, your family won't have to worry as much. I'm paying just a small sum of 38sgd a month to cover 500k. This applies to all of my future debt up to that amount, so if I decide to buy a car in the future (can't afford now haha), it covers as well.

Looks like yyhwin is more similar to my expenses. Haha....suffer la....together.

I think if you have family to take care, expenses increase a lot.

Last time when I single(mean not married but still have gf), one week went out once or twice with gf, then can always work day and night, save gao gao. After i settle down, the expenses increase a lot, like need to buy food for parents and wife, utilities bill, home phone bill etc. I feel more happy though, coz put lesser time in work and more time for family. :D

I realize it is very hard to retire once you have a family. I have no baby yet, so not sure how much expenses increase once i have kids.

My sg bank loan is tagged with mortgage insurance, that one insured with starting 920K (follow bank reducing balance).

The one that is fixed is life insurance, 100 K coverage, pay 3 K every year(for 10 years), currently finish paying 5th installment. :D
Thinking of adding another life when I finish paying this one.

mortgage insurance also depends on age and duration of your loan..

if you above 50 go buy mortgage insurance on a 15-20year loan.. expect premiums to be gao gao

if you young like 25..loan tenure 30years.. of course cheap la

you mean sg mortgage insurance?
I use prudential, dunno what they call it.
it is not life insurance, it will decrease in value as you pay off your mortage loan, that's why cheap. I think it is good enough for me.

Dont worry too much abt yyhwin. I know he is a survivor and will do very well in future. $800 a month taxes. Work that backwards. I think abt $150K chargeable income a year? So young and already earn so much. Probably $500K a year by the time he is 40 years old. I salute people like him.

this thread has really become chit chat thread liao..
and the big spenders have finally appeared as well lol.. anyway winorlose has sum up what those with families are experiencing.. spend money on family is not as wasteful as what others thing.. its worth it if u are a parent. i get more joy interacting with my kid than looking at my bank balance and investments..

btw, i think we should keep this thread to chit chat.. while ppl here are chitchatting, STI move up..

part of the reasons why i bought life is coz of the tax deduction(coz moi got very little cpf contribution).
