what the dif between sgx etf and sgx indices.

It is 'STI', not 'SGX'.

The Straits Times Index is made up of 30 large cap/ blue chip companies in various industries. E.g. Banks, Telcos, Real Estate, O&G etc etc

If you buy the STI etf, you are buying a stake in all those 30 companies.

Mine already in on Fri afternoon. Using DBS.

Usually SCB will be a bit later. But for KE, I am not sure...

STI, not SGX.

The index is the actual number that gets put out by the index calculator (in this case FTSE Indices); the ETF is a fund listed on the stock exchange that exactly tracks the STI Index.

You can't buy the index directly - you can buy ETFs or futures or swaps or CFDs that track the index, but you can't say "I want to buy the straits times index", because it's just a number.

if I not wrong Sirius is those last time u see at MRT ask u to donate to some WWF charity type.. last time got a lot but now like suddenly all disappear.. think they sometimes also take up jobs from like big companies like Singtel/insurance companies/etc to make up the numbers for credit card roadshows etc

A lot of these charities is just to suck ppl's money

For it to be 5% dividend, OCBC needs to drop to abt $7.20. Got chance boh? OCBC's 5 year low is abt $7.50.

I hope can buy at $7+.

With a mixture of STI ETFs, my favourite REITs, telcos and low priced banks in my portfolio, maybe I can get an average return of 5% from my money whilst also betting on growth.

Low chance to see it drop low
Currently at one times book value is already crisis levels price liao comparable to 2008 2012 valuations, from what research report says

This morning, met up some old friends for breakfast. Inevitably, we started talking about house, family and retirement.

I told them I started investing recently, and hope to achieve a decent portfolio by the time I'm 50. One of them asked me, if I can help her with her retirement plans also.

I said sure, but ultimately she have to DIY. I told her, my expected annual return is very conservative, only 3-4%. For every $100, I'm expecting to receive a dividend of $3+ per year.

Her reply shocked me: Franzz, I put in bank better! Bank interest rate is 1%! And I receive them monthly! I put in $100, every month get $1!

In my mind, siao liao. These people are professionals with tertiary education, and yet can't grasp simple financial concepts or do simple financial calculations. I can only wonder how the hell they are going to plan their retirement!

I tried to explain to her, what she calculated is effectively a 12% interest rate, but she keep saying I am wrong instead! LOL. Financial literacy classes should be made compulsory in school...

Singapore Savings Bonds already give around 2.5% per year average. If stocks only return 3-4% (including div+capital gains), it is not worth it.
