just got a new place, thinking of automating the place.

wondering whats the best solution. Am looking at automation solutions from bigger brands like maybe google samsung amazon etc. At least they won't close down suddenly etc
If you go the Samsung smartthings route, an interesting project the online community developed is CoRE. Very useful for triggering stuff at home.
I have a piston to turn on my living room lamp when my main door opens between midnight to sunrise and turn it off after 3 minutes automatically.
Nice to come home to a dimly lit home every time and have it turned off once i'm in my room automatically.

Yeah many solutions out there. Bottom line though is choosing what you want and seeing if it fulfills your needs

I'm using the one from the USA. Ordered from amazon. It works with our power. But be aware that zwave have a different frequencies between us and uk sets. So if you get the usa version, any zwave device u want needs to be ordered from usa too.

Also, if u order US switches u need to hack every wall because usa switches are rectangular and uk is square

after looking at the samsung smartthings, I realize locally not selling any other products that is really compatible leh.

Like I wanted to get all samsung appliances, but most aren’t even sold here, like the 5.0 add wash washing machines. Maybe I should go with other controllers?

Stuff that I narrowed down so far
- amazon alexa or echo
- Philips hue lighting

Hey guys, check out the Zipato smart home system. Compatible with many brands and ultimately we don't have to choose between Z-wave or Zigbee as their controller can do both and more. Automated my whole house at a very affordable price :)

Actually quite a number of home automation stuff can be bought from taobao at a gd price. I personally am using some wifi enabled switch to control the points around the house..

best still, people have found ways to control it using the web interface.. essentially you can use almost anything to control it as long as it has access to the light switch

Anyone tried controlling Samsung digital door locks with Smartthings? I read that it's zwave compatible, but not sure if there's any concerns with frequencies?
