iOS 13.5 release notes:

iOS 13.5 speeds up access to the passcode field on devices with Face ID when you are wearing a face mask and introduces the Exposure Notification API to support COVID-19 contact tracing apps from public health authorities. This update also introduces an option to control automatic prominence of video tiles on Group FaceTime calls and includes bug fixes and other improvements.

Face ID and Passcode
  • Simplified unlock process for devices with Face ID when you are wearing a face mask
  • Passcode field automatically presented after swiping up from the bottom of the Lock screen when you are wearing a face mask
  • Also works when authenticating with the App Store, Apple Books, Apple Pay, iTunes, and other apps that support signing in with Face ID

Exposure Notification

  • Exposure Notification API to support COVID-19 contact tracing apps from public health authorities

FaceTime

  • Option to control automatic prominence on Group FaceTime calls so video tiles do not change size when a participant speaks

Emergency Services

  • Option to automatically share health and other essential information from your Medical ID with emergency services when you place an emergency call (US only)

This update also includes bug fixes and other improvements.

  • Fixes an issue where users may see a black screen when trying to play streaming video from some websites
  • Addresses an issue in the share sheet where suggestions and actions may not load

But we could be wrong

It’s 1AM already, so I guess indeed we shall wait till Wednesday 1am, in about 24 hours from now.

EDIT: iOS 13.5 GM is out. Currently still considered in beta and we should be seeing the public build soon.

Installed GM iOS13.5 but our TraceTogether app still never use Apple/Google API, it’s still don’t work in background. So sad. ☹️ Under COVID-19 exposure logging is still off as trace together still not compatible therefore installed but not launching it until they use Apple/Google API

Public release of iOS 13.5 within this few days.

This is normal.

iOS developers are not allowed to release App with pre-release APIs into the App Store.
They can only launch their app with the latest API on the day of the launch or after.

Probably a small subset of the iOS community due to the technical limitations. I think we should hopefully see a higher number when iOS 13.5 is released, since they'll no longer be required to leave the app in the foreground.

But that would be dependent on whether or not govtech is open to using Apple and Google's APIs.

If the gov do go ahead to leverage on it. It would mean that users with an iPhone 6S and above will be able to contribute to this initiative. However that’s provided that they update their iOS and agree to take part in this.

For those that want to know where is the unbuild COVID-19 exposure logging is, it’s located at Setting > privacy > Health. Currently it is off because no app can support it now locally.

Wear a mask.
The iPhone will prompt you for a pass code immediately. It will no longer attempt to search for your face with a mask on.
