What is this $1,000 commission when you are going to make $30,000 from this $100,000

Haha, I'm production minded people. Use the least amt of resources to make the most amount of gains. If can reduce cost, I will do it.

Hey guys, first time in this thread.

I am going to start investing and have some questions.

It seems like you guys don't really buy bonds for diversification purposes and your portfolios are sgx focused.

Is currency risk a reason for this? What allocation should I have for SG/foreign stocks?

I used to have some coporate bonds like genting 5.125%
CMT 3%
CMA 3.8%
FCL 3.6%

but as interest rates when very very low, the bonds when u and I sold them all off

current I have some money in SSB, singapore saving bonds

you should have at least 50% in SGD investment as your living expenses are in SGD, if u plan to retire overseas... maybe can go more towards USD dominated investments

besides SG market, can look at US and HK market

unfortunately I only cover SG market

I am 24 years old and the money will not be touched. I have about $100k to put in and i plan to enter by doing some DCA.

The portfolio allocation that I am looking at is around 70/30 stocks/bonds.

As for SG and foreign shares, for SG I am looking for dividends so stuff like telcos and banks. While for foreign I will probably will using index with small amounts of stock picking.

the 30% bonds can consider DCA into ABF

I see.
Then I guess it might be better to wait for interest rate to actually go all the way up before investing in some bonds. I suppose prices for that will be depressed, then.

yup, i think rates will slowly go up and corporate bond prices will go down

so now for bonds I only into SSB, risk free but low returns of only 2-3% long term

Like that give you $1 comm per trade, but give u 1000 chances to make $30,000 but yet overall still lose money means what? You are not productive enough?

If you are good, you can still make money even if you are being charged 1% comm la

I follow ShinyThings' method. But with your capital, you can afford to venture out a bit more.

110 - 24 = 86% in stocks, 14% in bonds.

Bonds: so $14k in A35 or SSB, whatever floats your boat.
Foreign equities: $43k , further split to 3 tranches of $14k+ and buy IWDA over the next three months.
Local equities: $43k, split into 3 tranches. At least one tranche in ES3. The remaining can play around individual stocks, or if that's not your cup of tea, dump into ES3 over the next few months.

Rebalance once/twice a year, or your own method as you grow and mature in the markets.

and stick to your plan.
