The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.50% was up 109 points, or 0.6%, to 19,901, less than 100 points away from the psychologically important 20,000 level.

I think STI got good chance to rebound and climb towards 3000 level too

lets see how tomorrow goes, good luck to all

good nights

“The view seems to be that Trump will deliver on his fiscal stimulus promise, the economy will expand sharply, inflation will rise, and the Fed will need to hike rates more than currently forecast, but not by enough to lead to a serious stock market selloff,” she wrote.

Noted with thanks ML.

Would you suggest doing so on my own (using brokerage account and CDP) or using the monthly investment plan offered by banks?
Thank you.

??? so u lose money liao then continue spending like its wateR?

Depends on the individual context. If a person lost the majority of his wealth at 60 years old, he will have to postpone his retirement or he cannot even retire at all.

But a 30 year old should survive because he is still drawing a good salary. So life goes on. Normal spending will resume soon enough after he builds up his wealth again.

After reading through the thread, noted that a fairly substantial amount of capital is needed to start investing in stocks. Any advice for small fry like me on investing approach?
TIA

Find ways to increase your earning power in your own career. If you are studying, work hard and get good grades. Higher earnings can be used to translate to more savings, which can then be used to build your retirement fund.

Maybe you should post a bit more on how much you are putting aside per month (are you working?) for retirement, and your age (time horizon). Also, how much time you can put aside for looking into investments (are you working in the financial sector in the first place?).

Hi Maeda,

Thanks for the replies. I am currently working and taking into account commitments and expenses, perhaps can set aside 600-700 a month? Looking to start investing sooner rather than later. Hoping to read up on info here and gain some knowledge

What is your base capital right now?

Family commitment?

Job stability? Future prospects?

Emergency funds?

have u read Shiny things thread on Money Mind??

This guy here believes in Passive investing. Personally im putting money into STI ETF and CPF - V.Contribution on a mthly basis. And i just opened IB, planning to DCA IWDA too.

There are many things in life other than reading financial statements and doing all the tedious research, unless of cause you enjoy doing it which im sure most of the SSI warriors are.

People here have either too much spare time :s8: , hobbyists , or Pros like ML who has utmost faith in beating the market. Else, i really think passive investing is really the way forward.

Like how they say Buy Term and invest the rest, we can do Passive and Enjoy ur life. :)

No offence to anyone here, just giving this bro here another prospective :)

Emergency fund is very important.

If you have student loans, start paying them off. Pay off all other short term, high interest debts. Then, set aside an emergency fund. Finally, you start accumulating and setting aside money for investments.

Do you have insurance plans or related saving plans?

Remember, do not use money that you cannot afford to lose to invest.

The thread is a little messy IMO, so if you are willing to part with 8 USD, you can get his book (ebook actually). He has changed jobs so he can be a little slow (maybe approx a week?) with sending out the copies.

the question is whether Trump believes that rate hikes are needed now or not ?

Just not too long ago in 2012, he said that interest rates should have been lowered even further.

cant seem to embed the starting time but its around 7m40 seconds when he said it

I guess in some ways you can treat life policies like a bond, except that A35 probably gives better returns? Just stay away from ILPs like plague... *

*Seriously.

I still repeat this: unless you have a large chunk of money (say greater than half a million), PLEASE FOCUS ON YOUR OWN CAREER. A revenue stream in the form of a steady job or side business is always better than relying on part time retail investing to build your savings. Only turn pro when you have the capital and skill (stocks, forex, value investing, algo trading, etc).

I'm risk adverse, so sue me.

Agreed. It really depends on individual needs.
With that being said, buy term invest the rest by far coulr be the more cost effective methodology than others IMHO too, if you're concern over protecting your present and securing your future.

IMO, "buy term and invest the rest" (aka BTIR) is most suited for SINGLES with few commitments. Married personnel, especially with kids, will have to vary things a little.

Thanks all for the insights and advice. I did go through the shiny thing thread which advocates etf and passive investing. On the point, would it be advisable to start small with the monthly investment plan offered by banks such as maybank ke, posb, ocbc and etc? Thank you
