From the charts, looks like $15 is a better TP to go in. More safety margin, or at least $15.5...
I am full bearish on DBS now

TP is $16.00

those interested in shorting, maybe can consider buy at your own risk

1 year chart of DBS tells you everything

usually banks will present 2 book values, its a bit complicated.. one with and one without adjustments to certain fair values such as property, preference shares etc

so many different website use different values.. I not too sure also

I think some values maybe is pre and post dividends nav too, which is confusing

thanks for highlighting

I think this was the same guy who retorted me when I asked all the B$ questions which he claimed are not important:s13:

let me tell u how to make money in this forum.

1. First only listen to ppl who are actually making money.
2. Market timing and asset class picking are the 2 most important skills if u want exceptionally returns (>30% P.A - X%)
3. Never lose your capital
4. Dont forget step 3.

Whoever ask u simi lan sai what your investment goals are b$. Your goal is to make as much as possible based on how skillful u are in 2, 3. and 4. There is not such thing as 3-5% a year when every asset classes can be sold down. Look at how much value was lost in bonds n treasuries, the so called safest asset class. Good luck to u if u bought ILP or whatever into "safe" bonds or bond funds yielding <3%. Probably take u 5-10 yrs to breakeven.

LOL I found the small boi boi

example for OCBC, looking at this page u see that got 2 nav values of 8.31 and 9.82

so quite confusing...

for me, generally I try to take the lower value to be more on the conservative side..

OCBC book value 8.31 - closed 9.06 - price to book 1.09
DBS book value 16.68 - closed 17.62 - price to book 1.06
UOB book value 18.54 - closed 20.70 - price to book 1.11

all three banks seems overvalued at 6% to 11% premium to their book values

considering that they still have exposure to oil/marine related loans... I would logically price them at 0.90 times book value as a fair price

as such I do think that banks may have a possible downside of 15% or so

this is purely my own views and I may be wrong, I have taken some profits on my bank positions and may continue selling
I would be a buyer at closer to 0.9 times book or less

cheers

http://www.sharesinv.com/D05/

so now DBS is at 1.01 book value... if it goes to 1.10 or 1.20 book value.. I am happy to sell more

if it goes to 0.8 or 0.9 times book I am happy to buy more

UP or DOWN, I can still make profits and win

that's the ART OF VALUE INVESTING

this is NOT TRADING

this is NOT FIFO
need a lot of warchest to buy like this. I mini chest. Can only Buy n hold. Mayb sell near 52high. Collect divy while on the boat.
give that BV for DBS is 16.68 and its currently trading at 17.62

this represents a 5-6% premium to book value

as such I may consider further reducing my DBS position from 25k to 20k

thanks for pointing out

cheers
Norm every quarter nav will go up. Need to factor in?

ya.. must always review every quarter

when they make profits and retain the earnings, nav per share goes higher

if they make bad loans and do write offs, nav per share goes lower

I think in Q3 DBS took the hit from swiber... that's why now NAV is lower... i not too sure too

however for banks.. sometimes market ki siao one... our economy this year so slow.. yet DBS chiong from $13 to $18!!!!! up $5 or close to 35% in the span of under 12 months

sometimes market no logic one... if investors go ki siao again and feel bullish may also push DBS to $20 also hard to say

for investors not knowing what to do on banks shares... here is my strategy/plan..

example DBS

if you bought at say $15... now is already sitting on 20% profits like me... I think its ok to sell half your position to lock this big piece of profits... 20% is really quite a lot already 10k earn 2k riao
balance keep in case DBS goes higher to say $20

if you bought at say $16... now is sitting on 10% profits... maybe can sell 1/3 to keep some profits off the table..

if you have not position on DBS... then do not rush to enter... a reasonable entry would be below book value... so $16 looks like a good point to start nibbling if boat comes back

just my own thoughts, I may be wrong... as I dunno which direction the boat will go
