This statement is not very correct. If you do not subscribe to their fibre broadband, meaning you do not already have fibre provisioned to your address for ST (ST hv to pay NLT a monthly charge for this), then your Singtel TV will be delivered via ADSL (phone line).

Whereas if you already have ST fibre, then ST use that fibre provisioning to also deliver Singtel TV, in which case you do not need an ADSL phone line.

Exactly.. I'm puzzled by his info and I thought I was outdated..

Anyone knows if it's still mandatory to have Singtel Fibre for Singtel TV? As in, can I use M1/MR/VQ fibre for access Singtel TV?

I was told it wasn't possible a few years ago but I think the situation might have changed. Can't find this on their FAQ either.

yes it's possible, I'm using starhub fibre with singtel tv, but I have to pay for the singtel phone line monthly

It is not possible to access Singtel TV backend infrastructure using non-ST fibre broadband. 100% impossible. Anyone that has ST fibre and Singtel TV via fibre, just look at the home page of the router and you will know what I mean. Connection to Singtel TV infrastructure is internal to ST connection.

Additionally, ever heard of VLAN tagging? And what implication for a router connected to non-ST fibre?

ok to be clear, I'm not clear which fibre of broadband my singtel tv is using. all I know is that I'm subscribed to starhub Internet, and also singtel tv, and i presume that my singtel tv is plugged into the opennet box, and I'm paying monthly for a singtel phone line because I'm not a singtel fibre subscriber. hope this clarifies

Well you Singtel TV is probably running on ADSL instead of Fibre. You could always describe the modem to us and we can confirm it for you. But you can never have Singtel TV running on Starhub Fibre/Cable or any other ISPs, its just not possible.

the singtel tv modem thing is connected to the open net access point

If by "open net access point" you mean FTP, then ST has provisioned Fibre for your Singtel TV. Either you are very lucky or you are in those new estate where they don't lay copper telephone wire any more. They have commited to iDA to still serve these new estates with fibre Singtel TV even if the customers do not subscribed to ST fibre. This is the condition to discontinue laying copper telephone wire.

This ST fibre modem is not connected to your Starhub ONT and is never using your Starhub fibre. You can test this by power off your Starhub ONT to disable your Starhub fibre and Singtel TV still working.

but it is running on a fibre line, concurrently with my starhub fibre..?

It is running on fibre line that is "internally" connected to ST infrastructure without going out of the infrastructure for Internet access, and is completely separate from the fibre line of your Starhub fibre broadband.

I know it is very difficult to change the mind thinking. It is the normal process of the human mind that what the mind think or hear initially become the truth to the mind and it will disbelieve what is told later and blocking out the real truth that is contrary to the initial untruth that the mind has already believed (wrongly) to be the truth, hence what we see commonly as denial of the truth.

As I suggested earlier, power off your Starhub ONT to stop Starhub fibre broadband in your home, Singtel TV will still work (so long as you do not power off the ST fibre modem and disconnect from the FTP).

Do this only if you interested to know the truth, otherwise leave your mind alone.

From the discussion it appears he has 2 ONTs connected to his FTP (I think all FTPs here have max 2 ports?):

1) One from SH for Starhub fibre internet
2) Another one from ST for Singtel TV

Maybe I should request for this setup when I visit the PC Show. Problem is I live in an old estate :s13:

When will Singtel TV setup boxes be upgraded to hdmi 2.0a considering that 4k tvs are widespread now and that many other android cable boxes are offering 4k?

Wait long long haha. Everytime they want to push a new STB, the STB got no buttons or whatnot. That's why I hated the Tatung STBs.

Buttons at set top box will stop your life from moving forward? Alamak, I thought remote controllers are so.much preferred nowadays.. hahas

Ofc remote controls are preferred. It's just horrible when they are spoiled. Not sure about now, but last time Singtel only had selected singtel shops for exchange of remote. If spoil, at least the STB still has buttons can change channel. That was impossible on the Tatung STB.

Hi guys! Just wondering if I can still watch the singtel channels I subbed to on Fibre Entertainment Bundle+ without renting the STB? It costs like 5 bucks a month...

You need the STB. How else would you watch Singtel TV anyway? The app on mobile is subscription too.

Wah they good. Sell their tv plans without including the STB rental inside or just provide the STB for the contract period. Then charge us more for renting the STB in order to use their services.. or else cannot enjoy the service you paid for. Can't they just give free STB like their dual band routers and ONT?

Its like ordering a plate of fried rice but need to pay to hire the chef to cook and pay more for the gas and electricity used. Total bs!

Thumbs up man!
