Going to run at 4k/30, without RT. lol...
If it ever had RT, it will be like watching a power point slide. No longer is 'Cinematic' 24fps the lowest standard.
Just joking around. Anyway, Sony is really starting to be the overconfident and negligent again like back during the PS3 days.
Look at the pricing. Nothing about its hardware is better than the Xbox Series X. Yet, they charge it at a higher price. Similar pattern to the PS3 launch.
No value for money consumer friendly features like finally, the PS5 has a UHD disc drive. But it can't output the video in Dolby Vision when their TVs obviously can play in Dolby Vision? Clearly another way to cut cost while still charging at a higher price.
Then, they boast about quicker load times with their proprietary built-in SSD. Yet, XSX can actually make use of their quicker load times in even their older games. Seriously SCE?
Investing in their own technology instead of just licensing from Dolby or DTS:X in their object based sound technology is such a waste.
At least those 2 licenses comes with both Home Theatre setting as well as headphone setting instead of just having your development focused on headphones. I would rather have Dolby Atmos or DTS:X so that I can hear enemies from above as more multiplayer games have verticality in them. So knowing if the enemy is above you will give a good gauge of who's around you as opposed to the standard 7.1 2-dimensional layout of knowing that there's an enemy in front of you in COD for example but not knowing if they are right in front of you or above or below you.
When it comes to 1440p monitor support, you support headphones which many monitor users obviously use. But no 1440p support? Then they must fork out for the more expensive 4K monitors instead? Or worst, stick to a 1080p output? Might as well just play on the PS4. Oh man... SCE...
I'm even more irritated by the lack of VRR support. It would have helped lower the game's latency a bit instead of using V-Sync.
And if they continue sticking to V-Sync, then games need to be optimized manually in the future by game devs. I doubt they'd do that. Might as well start supporting VRR now. So game devs can have an unlocked FPS option which, over the Playstation generation, will get higher FPS without the game being locked to 30 or 60fps because the game devs were thinking of only the PS5 and not PS6 and beyond in the future.
VRR could have alleviated all that since there's no tearing. So an unlocked FPS is not a problem. Players with older displays can still get a locked 60fps since their display caps out at 60Hz too for now until they get their new display that natively supports HDMI Forum VRR.
Wasted opportunity and foresight by SCE here.
Other than that, I'll stick to using the PS5 only for exclusives seeing how underperforming the rest of its feature sets are for other games.
I really hope consumers will not buy the PS5 consoles to make sure SCE learns their lessons again. Be it for their higher price or the lack of features readily available with HDMI 2.1. It looks like SCE gets really cocky any chance they get and in the end, it is we consumers that lose out.
Here, I thought they'd learn that the success of the PS4 stems from the consumer focused and friendly aspect of it. But over the PS4 Pro and now the PS5 generations, looks like they are again, going back to their old ways.
Sorry for the ramble. Am having a slight buyer's remorse for pre-ordering one. If not for its exclusives... All I can say is, the PS5 is not worth buying especially on day 1 in the state that it is in. Not to mention the lack of storage expansion right from the get-go with the PS5 exclusive/optimized games. Especially with its higher price tag. If the sales are not good, then consumers can get the PS5 at a lower price after they put it on sale due to the lack of consumer interest in it. And only at that sale price might the PS5 finally be properly priced for what it offers.
And no, I am not getting an Xbox. Due to them committing to having their games be available on the PC, the PC is where it is at. PC has game sales very quickly and games like Battlefield can drop to bargain bin prices (like SG$12 on the EA store) in just 1 year vs the console online market store prices. And I can get Xbox games like the Halo Masterchief Collection on Steam. So no reason to get an Xbox at all just like the entire Xbox One generation including the Xbox One X where about the only exclusive games that came out were so poorly rated and looks like a PS2 era game like Crackdown 3. The X1X is the most powerful console but the most useless console at the same time especially with the lack of exclusive games to take full advantage of it. And now, the X1X is quickly killed off by the next gen XSX and the Series S as well. So not much reason to bother about it. The Game Pass aspect is a good move. But I prefer to own my game and build my archive of games over time.
Not to mention, the sometimes free upgrades to older games on PC without the need to repurchase the same old games again. Look at Demon's Souls. A remake being charged at around SG$97! What?!

I have been a console gamer since I was very young. I only got to PC gaming for less than 4 years.
Was thinking of making use of its UHD media player aspect to use it for watching movies when I'm not playing the PS5 exclusives. But even that is not doable.
These unnecessary increased prices for both the console and the games on the console to reach $100 per game, I don't find any joy in purchasing my PS5 now.

In more online games, I can still play with my PS friends too.
Sometimes, I'm not sure why I even bother.
Sorry for the rant! I don't know if anyone else feels this way too about where console gaming is going now with next gen.
