see, u add the "sometimes not even enough to eat one good meal" comment.

That one feels like an excuse to make you feel happier right hahaha.. no offence.

u think scalpers only sell 1 set meh? Scalpers sell multiple sets esp in November, 1 set sell for 1.3 to 1.5k. Thats like almost $400 to $600 profit. Imagine they have 10 sets.. can amount to $6000 plus minus free money. I am sure even $400 can get you a good meal, unless your standard of good meal means fine dining at over $1000+. Dont think u will want to spend that amount la right? Because if u dont mind, i am sure u can afford to pay $900+ for a ps5 instead of waiting so long right? hahaha.

If i can easily afford a 1k meal, i am sure i dont mind throw $300 away to get a ps5 right away instead of needing to camp at a website, set auto refresh etc to even hope to get a ps5. Time is money for the rich~

more for principle for me....not for the amount of money, those are not a lot but why bother paying those people?

And i do eat fine dining fairly frequently...:o
That's why i mentioned not worth scalping, last time i even wrote i am willing to let go at cost price right if HN deliver

i have a ps5 just so that i have gaming options at the tv console for guests and kids..and since its a new product, jump on the hype train to get the console to compliment my LG CX.

i previously subscribed to xbox game pass on my pc, not bad. Tons of games. However the thought of having to carry my pc and plug to the tv is so inconvenient, thus having a stand alone console at the tv is much better.

Blind rage aside.. this is somewhat true... if there is no good exclusive title.. i won't even have a ps4 in a first place.. i had recently refresh my pc.. and some game i have on ps4 i still own it and playing it on my pc just because pc run better.. but can't confirm the same case for PS5..

tiagong the tflop of ps5 GPU is much higher then my rtx 2070s

PC although more horsepower, the optimization of it very lacking.

So regret spending 4k++ to build my rig just last year. Then when run games the sound can be even louder than ps5/xbx especially on gfx fans..

CPU much powerful than the current gen console but then games also don't use the 12/16 cores 24/32 threads..

but u see ah its basically demand and supply ba.

Yesterday limpeh go shengshiong want to buy prawns for cny, they selling prawns at $39 per kg when normal days are like only $12 to $14 per kg.

No one really make a big fuss or complain online about it haha because its Shengshiong and its just demand and supply. People will still buy and pay more for it cuz they have the money to spend. They wouldnt say they will wait for CNY to end in 2 weeks den go buy the prawn, they just want it now...so they buy on the spot and pay the premium. Unless u "preorder" the prawns by buying it way earlier...and freeze the prawns in the freezer haha...

So whenever demand is overwhelming and supply is scarce, price sure goes up and scalpers appear. Ethics or not ethics aside, it will happen and it already happened in the commercial world. Not only on ps5.

HAHAHA dude Im just giving a random thought of mine but yes I get what u mean but still all of this still boils down to if you are ethnical lor. I nor kpkb la I just say say only I managed to get one for myself is just I keep think of those who never get cuz of ppl like them quite sad. Is like those scalpers profit from their selfish acts which is really unsightly for me. Sure they don't care and they may argue it's how "business" works but this act speak volumes about their ethics.
I dont think this has anything to do with ethics, selling an item thats in demand at a higher value has always been a thing, its a legit business, since the price is just suggested retail price, and its not selfish, its how they make money. Maybe doesn't aligns with your ethics which is fine. Like he said, jordans pokemon cards, antique cars, going for thousands and millions of dollars, which people never complained about much.

The only that that i actually wonder now, is that if its still worth it to actually wait for those random drops etc, unless you have a bot buying it, for just additional 200$ 250$.

hahaha.

when an individual raise prices to resell, they are deemed by the console community as scalpers and being criticized on.

But when big companies price their products higher, (surprisingly even with abundant of stocks, but just because its a festive season), they will not be criticized on, just treat it as price hike and its normal. :s13:

Thats why the big players, rich towkays with MNCS will only get richer, approved by the mass community to keep pumping to their sales making them even richer

while the individual poor scalper who just wants to earn that measly hundred dollars, get mass flamed and critisized. hahahah.

Companies that have big brandings have put in effort to sell a product, does marketing and stuff, they can price their products very high...for example a secretlab chair but people know their stuff are all made in china which cost price definitely very low.
People wont mind paying for the "effort" put in.

But when a scalper who maybe queues online for a couple of hours at TOG or PlayE or what not, go and sell his hard to get ps5 for just a mere $200 to $500 higher, he gets downplayed badly. So his effort of queuing up is suppose to be for free? The console community expects the effort that these scalpers who got the ps5 is free of charge ah. Must die die sell at the retail price den get respected, anything higher, kpkb him hahaha..

Dunno is community problem or what haha...

Some people also get angry with the people who buy from these scalpers who elevate the price of the ps5, saying that its because of these buyers thats why there are scalpers. Its the same logic. If there are no BAK KWA buyers who willing to pay higher price during the CNY season for every year, the BAK KWA seller also definitely wont price higher knowing that he will lose more business since no one will buy. But why these "suckers" ( term labelled by the community) willing to buy the bak kwa at a much higher price? Because they can afford it and not willing to wait until the CNY season is over.

Why do buyers pay scalpers $400 to $600 more for a ps5 during nov/dec 2020? Because they can afford it and they not willing to wait.

Why do some people get disgruntled that they cant get a ps5 now and die die dont want pay the scalpers? They cant afford it, dont feel shiok to pay extra or want to be "ethical". Scalpers dont give a hoot about your reasons because there will always be buyers willing.

The rich gets richer , the poor gets poorer and scolded. :s13:

huat ah! happy CNY everyone!

currently grind’in on The Last of Us 2 on my PS5 🥸

Posted from PCWX using iPhone 11 Pro Max
The Last of Us Part II is the best PS4 exclusive of the generation in my opinion. Naughty Dog have done it again, and TLOU 2 is their magnum opus.

Superb production values, best animation in the industry, insane graphics (Better than God of War & Ghost of Tsushima. It looks even better than some early PS5 games), great gameplay & sound, gripping storyline from beginning to end. During some moments in the game, it manage to evoke some feelings which I seldom felt while playing a game. And that's a testament to the brilliant character building by Naughty Dog.

Of course it isn't perfect, no game is. Story is divisive & the game suffers from some pacing issues. Like others, I wish ND would have went in a different story direction. But I respect & applaud them for being bold & telling a story they envision. They could've easily play it safe in this sequel & make another similar adventure as the first TLOU, but they didn't.

As for TLOU vs TLOU2, both are equally great but I still prefer the first game.

Couldn't decide to get the PS5 version of Nioh and Nioh 2 at $97.90 or the PS4 versions Nioh and Nioh 2 individually. The PS4 versions are cheaper though its 2 game disc. i read that only the Nioh 2 has the free upgrade to PS5.

Got the same question as you. Already have Nioh (last time psn give out as free) now considering whether got the PS 5 collection or get ps4 nioh 2 only.

Like the steelbook from ps4 nioh 2 but I heard PS5 nioh got a lot more improve and added some extra content

I think most people who get pre-order would sell off first for profit when demand is high. Smart people will earn profit first then buy another set later when supply is high or even after price drop. Using profit to buy own PS5 later. Not to say scalpers are right, but it’s the common sense thing to do. Unless you want to play the small PS5 library or PS4 games, PS5 can wait.

Scalping is "common sense" if your time isnt worth very much. Scalping requires time and effort, if that $200-$300 is a big deal for you then erm ok you should probably scalp more since you need the money. Some people have day jobs or investments that easily pay 100-1000x more, they are not going to spend their time monitoring PS5 drops, listing the item on carousell and meeting people to transact. They'd rather keep the console even though they might only have played one game on it and its now just sitting there collecting dust.

I will concede that I likely would have sold my PS5 10-15 years ago when I was less financially well off, but its no longer worth the time and effort now, I'd rather give my money to Sony so that they can produce more AAA titles. I dun game much these days because most games simply dun interest me anymore, I appreciate the fact that Sony still puts in the effort to make great first party titles that still interests me, this is a company that I will support any day.

money paid to scalpers, $729 still goes to Sony haha.. not saying i condone it but thats how it is. Sony still earn the same as it being sold not to a scalper.

Yea exactly since now u are financially better, and if u were interested to play a specific game on ps5 like how the people here yearn for one, will u still wait months later or be like others who constantly monitor the ps5 drops, refreshing it etc? If it were me and i dont have the time, i will surely pay for that extra money to get one on hand if i am so crazy to play a ps5( which i am not) Sony still earns that $729 if the logic that u mention is to support Sony hahaha...

same logic like BAK KWA. If i so crave it, i will pay the elevated prices that the bak kwa store are selling the bbq pork to get it right away. And the thing is, pork isnt scarce now and yet the prices are elevated, and yet singaporeans aka the "food community" still pay without batting an eyelid. The sellers are banking in to the "hype of the season" and we consumers pay it without complaining online haha

But when its ps5 to the console community, "hor hor hor.... scalping is bad...dont buy from this idiots etc.."

Community problem right?

I have a bunch of hardcore PS console acquaintances and of course friends who buy for casual fun. No offence but the acquaintances that are so hardcore...are eccentric people. Dont wanna be a judge but they are single introverts often giving a nerdy eccentric vibe. Just from what i notice, no offence!

I’m quite amazed at the scalpers on carousell asking for deposits like do people actually pay an upfront or $100 to a stranger online?

haha nv say u kpkb la haha..

humans are not ethical one la.. in public forum maybe ethical, in private, where will ethical one..

its the same as how companies go apply sole distribution of a certain product, dont let other vendors or companies sell a specific product in a region, so they can monopolize the market in that country. Its "unethical" but its business and its done legally. But if u look at another angle, they are ensuring no other competitors can sell the product to make profit, and they get the full profit for that product in that country.

In life, its just how you look things in diff perspective. hehe

I am not defending scalpers, i myself dont have a ps5 to sell lol. Already have my set and its collecting dust.

Just stating in general.Notice always its the console audience that makes alot of noise, but dont see other groups complaining. Example a shoe that is releasing by adidas, maybe only 300 pairs....got super long queue for it and 90 percent buy to resell, and they have a group page for resellers to sell and buy. The community respect the reselling.

But when it comes to console, the audience here behave differently hahaha. True all sort of reasons will be use saying that ps5 is not suppose to be limited edition bla bla ....but the quantity already makes it "limited edition".

Obtaining sole distribution for a product is not the same thing as scalping, dun conflate the 2. When you are a distributor for a product you handle warranty, logistics, etc for the product, you are paid for doing a job. Scalpers dun add any value to the process, in fact they are disruptive, in this case they prevent Sony from reaching out to their customers as quickly as possible, a PS5 thats sitting in a scalper's home is not generating any revenue for Sony, and Sony is already losing tons of money for each PS5 that they sell.

Hype sneakers is a market that exists solely to satisfy collectors, its a different market and different business model, Adidas doesn't lose any money from people scalping their sneakers, in fact this is exactly what they want, creating limited editions of sneakers allow them to jack up prices for higher profit margins. Sony doesn't make any money from selling PS5 consoles, in fact they lose money from selling them, their business model is severely disrupted if scalpers start hoarding their PS5 stock.

I dun agree that its entirely Sony's fault for not being able to churn out more PS5s, people forget that we are in a global pandemic, demand for chips are sky high due to WFH and supply chain disruptions, scalping exacerbates what is already a dire situation for many businesses, not just Sony, it should be regulated if not banned outright.

you are right definitely.

But i am speaking on a consumer point of view. Not on Sony's end.

On the consumer perspective, i am comparing with consumers who dont mind paying for elevated products in different seasons etc. Ultimately the consumer comes out more money on his end compared to the retail price of a item.

Its the perspective of the console community that they outrightly hate to pay more for an item, whereas other communities are willing to pay more to get the item right away.

But yea u definitely right on the commercial perspective of Sony, but to be honest as most consumers are, we just want to know about the final price we have to pay on our end. What goes behind the scene, not our taiji.

Except that Sony doesn't make any money from the $729 they get from scalpers, they lose money from selling them.

Most consumers would gladly sign up for PS plus or purchase Miles Morales if they are able to get their hands on a PS5 for $729, but paying twice the MSRP for it is going put most people off, most people are just not going to do it. In the end, Sony doesnt get the revenue they'd have gotten if the scalper hadn't existed.

Moot point since there are no Bak kwa scalpers so all the profits accrue to the business, and rightfully so since most of their profits come from CNY period.

I dunno if PS5 or console community are more "nerdy", they could be, but I'm not against scalping because I'm a fanboy or something, I just dun think this is good for the industry.

If Sony doesn't do well then they wont have the resources to put into making quality AAA titles, this is a lose-lose situation for consumers and sony.
