Couple of personal comments bout the PS5 (after using the 1st few hours)….
Must admit that the new interface has me rather confused, especially with such powerful hardware (& it’s options).
Pros:
1. Quiet and fast. I’m transitioning from a gen 1 PS4, so obviously the noise level (or lack of) is a very nice change
2. Playing COD at 120hz is really a nice experience. I gladly choose ‘Performance’ over ‘Resolution’. Even anything at 60Hz is nice. For example: Days Gone plays stunningly beautiful on 60Hz.
3. The new Dualsense is really cool. Totally new feeling when in COD w the haptic triggers, but nevertheless is quite realistic. Likewise Astro’s Game is a fine showcase of what developers can put the new Dualsense to better use.
4. The free PSPlus collection comprising of all the AAA titles is a GREAT incentive for non-gamers to jump on the bandwagon. God of War, Uncharted, Last of Us, Days Gone, Persona…. Wow. The machine practically paid for itself base on the sheer amount of entertainment derived from these free AAA games. Unless of course… most of us (i assume like me) have already gone through these titles. But still…. It’s a very justifiable reason to purchas
Cons:
1. Takes a bit getting use to in the interface. Example: you have to dive into game settings in order to pre-set Performance mode as default. Also… why is the default setting for microphone ‘on’ always?
2. Why still no support for AirPods? Sigh.. was hoping secretly I could pair my AirPods Pro for my gaming
3. The compatibility between PS4 save games & PS5 is downright frustrating. Example: Was so happy to see Control: Ultimate Edition as free. But am crushed that it does not recognise my PS4 Control (Standard)
4. I feel that the wifi antenna is not as strong as the PS4. I’m getting weaker signals from my usual gaming spot at home
5. C’mon Sony… would it have hurt to include a web browser? Afterall, Sony has already all major streaming apps. What’s stopping them from incorporating a simple web browser? The fact is.. there is none in the App Store as well.
6. Lack of a good AAA title. I hate to say this… but Demon Souls is touted as a definitive AAA title for the PS5. But it’s not new. And not everyone (including myself) enjoys this series due to its difficulty nature. This harkens back to 2 years ago.. when I literally secured my Switch solely for the purpose of Zelda’s BOTW. Which till now.. I have no regrets cos my Switch is covered w dust in back corners of my tv console. So the question to Sony is… where’s PS5 1st good AAA title? As much as I’m looking forward to RE Village, but I’m hearing no significant diff regardless of PS4 Pro or PS5. I hope I’m wrong… really do.
Conclusion:
Apologies for the long rant. Yes, I like the PS5, but I feel that its technological edge is undermined by its lack of good titles. It’s just the beginning.. (actually it’s been 6 months already since launch), and we’re not getting any confirmation on availability of AAA titles. Hey Nathan!! Hey Kranos!! Rockstar??!!! Come out already will ya?
