i am currently on m1 500mbps $30.45 per month.

Anyone knows what would the monthly charges be once the contract ends?

I cant find the terms of th previous contract online.

Should be the same price after contract expires based on the reports in M1 thread. If you want to double confirm, call M1.

Hi all, my singtel 1gb plan has expired for some time and im looking to get a new plan and im abit overwhelmed with the choices lmao. Currently on Singtel's ONT and their latest basic router and im getting really bad signals hence i have 3 deco x20 (abit overkill). Looking to change to a "good?" isp and get a good router (wifi 6/7?).
No power users just casual gaming/netflix and work from home set ups for 3 people, no smart light/fans at home, and no need for voice line as well. Im abit confused with how the new ONR might affect me or if it will even affect me as im not a power user. I have a Singtel cable plan also currently. Any advice is appreciated greatly!

This is the plan of my 3-bedroom hdb:
imgur.com/gallery/t05OHK4

I tried my best to draw out my floorplan as i couldnt find the actual one haha.
Blue dots are the Deco x20 devices, Red dot infront of TV is where the ONT, Router, and TV box are, and Yellow at the top left* corner is where the netlink trust port is. The gray lines are my Cat6 cables - 1 running from main router to a netgear switch in Room 2 which splits out to a computer, deco x20, and another lan cable that runs to another computer in Room 3. The shaded boxes are cupboards, just added them in to show any possible wifi interference, because previously when I was running only the singtel's basic router, I was getting really weak connections in Room 1 and 3.

Er, this layout accurate or not ? If accurate just 1 AP Ceiling mount outside the door of Room 1 would have covered the entire house, you won't need anything else. Cupboards unless made of metal else not going make much difference.

yeap it's accurate, ceiling mount would require some wiring works to be done which i'd ideally like to avoid ah, thats why i was wondering maybe changing out the main router would fix the issue, and of course get a better plan as well since im out of contract now

If you have a shelf (esp if full height one) in the living room outside room 2 or room 1, that can be an alternative.
It is not common to see a floor plan as easy to cover with a single AP as yours.

That depends on what is important to you.
Public IPv4 ? (No CGNAT)
Static IPv4 ?
IPv6 ?
Speed ?
Budget ?
Which local/international sites are you accessing mainly ?
etc......

Your wifi coverage has nothing to do with your broadband plan, just fyi. In terms of placement if you want better coverage in room 3 you should probably connect the Deco unit in that room to the LAN cable in room 3 that's currently connected to the computer. The deco x20 has 2 LAN ports that can both be used as input or output, so connect the Deco unit to the LAN cable that's linked up to the Deco in Room 2, then use the 2nd LAN port and connect it to the PC. Relying purely on wireless mesh to provide perfect coverage is wishful thinking.

For room 1, you don't really have a choice. Like what @A7997A says, you gotta place a wired AP/mesh unit as close as possible to room 1 to improve coverage there. Ideally ceiling mounted in the middle of the house, but that's a high-effort solution.

In terms of broadband plans, my personal preference is M1, either their 1gbps ($36.90) or 2.5gbps ($39.90) is good. Has dynamic public ipv4, and functional ipv6. Given your use case, I'd consider anything above 1gbps to be largely a waste of money, but these days most ISPs have moved on over to XGS-PON based plans that enable up to 10gbps, so you'll see plans that can be 3gbps or 5gbps that can be cheaper than what M1 offers, but there will also be drawbacks like having to use an ONR, being stuck behind CGNAT, or having a malfunctioning/nonexistent IPv6 implementation.

Now that M1 finaly launches 3Gbps/6Gbps/10Gbps plans, I have updated the first post.

+++++++++
2) Recommendation for new sign-up: M1 and Starhub are the top two choices.

a) M1 is a safer bet for most new sign-ups. It is safer than Starhub and Singtel since it does not use ONR at all.

Take note M1 new 3Gbps/6Gbps/10Gbps plan may not be fully available across the island.

M1 1Gbps plan/2.5Gbps/3Gbps plan are okay plan to go with.

M1 10Gbps with two Asus ZenWiFi BT10 is a superb deal at S$63.90 per month.
You may offload one unit to sweeten the deal.

M1 6Gbps with two Asus ZenWiFi BT10 is a superb deal at S$59.90 per month. You may offload one unit to sweeten the deal.

b) SH 5Gbps plan is worth considering, especially the S$29.55 offer for 5Gbps plan (ONR or ONT options).

Average users: it is okay to go for the cheap ONR option if you do not mind the limitation of Nokia all-in-one ONR. It comes with Nokia Beacon 2 to form a mesh with Nokia XS-2426X-A ONR. In that case, Starhub S$29.55 per month ONR offer is a superb deal.

You can also go with the ONT option if you want to use your own router and do not like to use ONR. It is also a very good deal for new users.

SH 10Gbps plan is the way to go if you need EPL or other contents bundling. Recommendation is to go with the ONT option plus TP-Link EB810v, unless you do not mind the limitations of the Nokia all-in-one ONR.

c) VQ 10Gbps plan is well worth considering, especially for Power Users. It is using CGNAT, so you may need to pay for Static IPv4 add-on at S$4.03 per month, if you hit into the limit of CGNAT.

d) MR 3Gbps plan is worth considering as well. It is using CGNAT, so you may need to pay for Static IPv4 add-on at S$51 one time charge, if you hit into the limit of CGNAT. Nothing wrong to go with MR 10Gbps plan either. MR 3Gbps/10Gbps Gamer Plan may be a good one if you need low latency to China.

e) WC 2.5Gbps plan if you do not mind using ONR and only want to have a lowest cost yet stable plan. WC 10Gbps no-frill plan is also worth considering. Take note it may have bad latency to some international locations like US and Europe.

f) Singtel is okay to go if you do not mind using ONR and do not mind paying a bit higher for better stability. It may have bad latency to some international locations like US and Europe. Still you may want to consider M1 and Starhub first before Singtel.

g) SIMBA as of now can not be recommended if you intend to use only single ISP, because of stability issue and weak technical support. It may also have bad connections to local sites. It is fine to use as a secondary ISP.

The above is just my own recommendations. You can always go with the plan you like. You know your specific use cases the best.

I had a look at this deal - its annoyingly bundled with mobile and fixed line connections, I don't see any option to just go for the broadband :(. Went through the sign up pages and there's only options to pick SIM type and pick your fixed line phone number etc.

I understand. M1 web site for signing-up is known to be lousy. You may want to go to a physical shop to sign up.

As per M1 Fibre Broadband FAQs , digital voice is optional (it is actually free), not so sure about the bundled SIM Only Plan (also free if you do not use it).

https://www.m1.com.sg/home-broadband/ultra-fast-speed-fibre-internet-plans
Must I sign up for M1's Fixed Voice service when signing up for the broadband plan?

You can opt to sign up for the free M1 Fixed Voice service if you like, but it is not required. You can enjoy this service by using a standard RJ-11 phone cable to plug your home phone into the Optical Network Terminal (ONT), which will be installed by M1 upon signing up for Fibre Broadband.

That maybe the key because the online signup definitely didn't give me any options to remove those addons (even if free).

M1 doesn't change their price if you delete their fixed line and/or bundled mobile data SIM. But they start charging for the mobile SIM (at least) once you reach the end of a service contract and start paying the non-contract monthly rate. So it's obviously a good idea to cancel the mobile SIM just before you start the non-contract rate or to renew your contract (with the mobile SIM service included again, presumably). Set a calendar reminder to yourself.

If you don't know what to do with the mobile SIM just stick it in a drawer. But it can be a good option for a backup phone, child or elderly person's phone (with limited use, mainly for urgent contact via messaging apps), temporary foreign visitor to your home who could use a little local data, a tablet (such as an iPad with a SIM slot), "Internet of Things" device (such as a smart battery powered home monitor that can send you a message over a mobile data network if your refrigerator loses power), or if your router supports a backup mobile data SIM. Just be careful to understand what the data limit is and what excess data charges are possible.

Im currently on M1 1 gbps so logistically it makes sense for me to upgrade to 10 gbps i guess rather than sign up for say SH 10 gbps. Unless of course if SH price is lower or subsequent reviews show SH is faster or more stable.

Most importantly as im lazy and also not a networking expert (no noob since i set up my current AImesh network but far from expert) at least this way M1 will do the setup for ZenWifi BT10 and makes sure it works and I just fine tune after the installer goes.

I guess the only thing now is to read reviews from other M1 10 gbps first adopters and if generally good, i’ll wait for it to be available in my area and see if M1 will let me upgrade mid contract from 1 to 10 gbps plan.

M1 10 gbps: 3019.4 - 8058.0Mbps (mix of intl & local)
SH: 7599 Mbps – 8231 Mbps (local)
ST: 3459.98 - 4094.55Mbps (intl)
ST: 7852.25 - 8171.00Mbps (local)
MR: Can’t find on website

M1 not the fastest but i guess besides speed, congestion and stability also important.

I'm on M1 1GBps too, and my area not covered by their 10Gbps.. while I'm eligible for early renewal, I don't want to be tied with their 2.5 Gbps plan for the next 2 years.

Perhaps MR gaming is better? (with the top up for ASUS ROG GT-BE25000)?

StarHub at $29.55/month (plus a possible initial fee) for 5 Gb/s service on a 24 month contract, with your choice of ONR or ONT, is a good deal right now.

which routers would be recommended for SH 5gbps? and usually its which CAT cable, 6 or 7 is it? cause my room has direct ethernet port from the living room ONT or router, so means i need to rewire it as addon cost?

Which Starhub 5Gbps plan are you using? What kind of routers do you have currently? Do you have 10G capable wired device?

1) If you are using Starhub 5Gbps ONR option, it is already the main router of your home network and it has wireless function (AX6000), you can get cheaper Nokia Beacon 2 as the mesh node if the coverage is not enough.

2) If you are using Starhub 5Gbps ONT option, it is probably easier to get TP-Link EZ810v at S$360 from Starhub.

3) CAT 6 cable is good enough for 10Gbps. No need CAT 7.

4) No idea about what you are trying to ask for the last part. If your already have functional LAN ports in the rooms, then you should be fine. Even good CAT5E cable may well be okay for 5Gbps if the quality is okay (not certified but may well work).

5) You may want to post the floor plan with details of the FTP location (living room), LAN ports location in the rooms if any, and intended location of the main router (living room?) as well as other APs (if you have that in mind).

6) You may also want to read the following thread about WiFi/Network configuration for 5Gbps/6Gbps/10Gbps palns:
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...urations-for-5gbps-6gbps-10gbps-plan.7073159/
