Are you an existing Singtel user? If yes, ONR user or ONT user? If you are a new user, then no point.

New users:
M1 6Gbps at S$34.90 per month with free Archer BE805, adding another Archer BE805 at less than S$300 (dumped by M1 users), effective cost at S$47.4 per month with two TP-Link Archer BE805 mesh.

Starhub 5Gbps at S$29.55 per month with free HB710, adding another Archer BE805 at less than S$300, effective cost at S$42.05 per month with two TP-Link Archer BE805 + HB710 mesh. Or adding another EB810v from Starhub at S$360, effective cost at S$44.55 per month with EB810v + HB710 mesh.
Hi, appreciate ur sharing of so many useful info, I saw ur reply about this hidden offer at starhub and tried to register for it online last night but it was unsuccessful, so tdy I went to one of their store to ask about it. After the staff saw the website, he just said register online. But I failed again so he told me I could call 1630 to ask for support. After I explained the issues, the staff at the other side of the line said this offer was for existing users recontracting:ROFLMAO:. I mean they not even state this on the website. What a scam. And heard from my fri that Starhub's internet was not that good also?

However, I realised that the 29.55 ONR is now being phased out by Starhub, it is only possible to signup the 29.55 ONT plan with 1 Free TP-Link HB710 WiFi 7 Router (i went down to Starhub to confirm that the ONR is no longer avail). The internet requirements of my folks new home is not high spec or anything, it is just regular TV , laptop and handphone use for streaming of videos from netflix youtube and teams call. No gaming or heavy requirements. Starhub also mentioned that it is too early to sign up anything now as the place will only complete renovation in about 2-3 months time.
oops just saw the above msg, so what are some good choice of broadband services for new users? My flat is also a typical 4-room BTO style. And main use are just video streaming and light gaming. Thanks in advance!

You may just click the link and see how it goes, no need to talk to them.

Please continue the discussion in the Starhub 5Gbps thread. There are many users who have done the sign-up.

If there's major rewiring....

It's always best to have 2 Ethernet Ports where the TV Console is.

  1. If the DB Box is super far away from TV Console.
  2. If you plan to have 2 devices near the TV Console with Ethernet IN.
Say Inside DB. You placed the ONT connected to the TP using Fibre Cable.

A. You can choose to have the main router at the TV Console......
By ONT -> Patch Panel Living Room (1) -> Router
Then Router -> Patch Panel Living Room (2) -> DB -> Switch -> Other Ethernet Ports In Room

B. Or (Inside DB) ONT -> Router -> Patch Panels To Other Places

If using HB710 (router) with only 1 LAN, then cannot do this.
Need Add Switch or Get EB810v.

Maybe to add to the above.
If you only need to have 1 Ethernet to be in the other rooms....
When the HB710 is placed at TV Console and enough for the Wifi coverage for the whole unit...
Then there's no need to get a switch.
ONT -> Patch Panel Living Room (1) -> Router (WAN)
Then Router (LAN) -> Patch Panel Living Room (2) -> DB -> Patch Panel To Bedroom (1)

Regarding Newer BTOs
Usually the Telephone lines are also using Cat 5e or 6 Cables.
As most peoplr are no longer using home lines, these are usually converted to Ethernet Ports.

As for TV System, those are Coaxial Cables.
Speed aint great for conversion. So best to be removed.
I just saw the suggestion of the addition that mentions if only 1 ethernet point needed in room, we can bypass the need of the switch. So basically in the patch panel of the db box, we can connect living room 2 to patch panel bedroom 1 directly. That's a great suggestion!

I saw the useful ABC of networking thread + xiaofan mentioned may not need to relocate the LAN port, but rather pull another cable between the two LAN ports in the Living Room.

I think the cable here refers to a very long ethernet cable (probably 10m or less so will not have signal loss) to be connected from the further lan port to the router at the console right? This is such a cool idea. Might be unsightly but I think it is possible to ask contractor tohelp add a casing to hide it!

Low end, or you can call it mid-end, HB611-SGST, 2.5Gbps capable, triband BE11000.

Starhub issued HB710 is better at S$192 from Starhub (dual 10G ports, triband BE18000).
Starhub issued HB410 is worse at S$120 from Starhub (dual 2.5G ports, dual band BE6500).

May I know if the HB710 will make a difference if I am currently using Singtel Broadband Plan 2Gb, using the WG660242-ST from Arcadyan. Especially higher speed plan requires another type of ONR / ONT

(it's my mistake not to check out other ISP before recontract and what is worse is they have a hidden link that is 5Gb plan which is cheaper than what I had paid for. Have to endure for another 1.5 years)

And may I know if I can walk in to purchase from Starhub shop for the HB710 even though I am not their customer anymore?

I may consider Starhub / MR after my Singtel contract expires as they are not that good somehow.

No point using the HB710 with your SingTel 2Gbps plan, which is aggregated 2Gbps plan (each ONR LAN port up to 1Gbps, total up to 2Gbps download speed).

Thanks alot mate for the sharing. Sincerely appreciated. In that case I will endure until I can jump ship.
May I know what is the reason that you recommend Starhub as compared to MR?

Not using CGNAT.

But if you have some special requirement like good routing to China, MR Gamer plan seems to be the way to go.

Thanks alot for your enlightenment. I am still quite new to go deeper into broadband issues despite being in the IT space since young. I will take note of it and choose a good isp when my contract is due ya thanks~!

oh ya btw may I know why MR Gamer plan vs MR 10GB plan?

MR 10Gbps Gamer plan will probably be the best then.

Please refer to Post #2 in the first page.

Hey guys just wanted to share that the starhub 29.55 onr new sign up plan (comes with 1 free Nokia beacon 2) still can be done at a roadshow. Previously went to starhub outlet and they said no more but I happened to be at the tampines roadshow today and they still offer it. The general consensus is the ONT plan is better but I suppose there may be average users who find the ONR option of value?
