UOL 2Q earnings down is mainly due to the valuation losses.

Hock Lian Seng reports their 2H as total instead of quarterly look. Anyway, if split them into individual quarter, 2Q16 earnings look much better than last year.

Cost = 14,877.49, Current Value = 14,999.5
Day Change = -30.5 (-0.21%)
P&L = +122.01 (+0.82%)
P&L + Dividends = +277.21 (+1.86%)
P&L + Dividends + Closed = +1,098.86 (+7.39%)

Lack of diversification continues to make my portfolio swing in weird ways, and likely won't be any change to allocation until my next scheduled dollar cost averaging in Q4.

capland also due to fair value losses. will fcl suffer the same tmr? probly

so many fair value losses... maybe due to Q2 got brexit

those with UK exposure, they lower down the value of their properties in that area?

FCL around 10%+ assets in UK, might get hit too

must be prepared

in a way, now that the economy is weak, most companies will be more liable to book losses... fair value gains or losses with properties just take it with a pitch of salt bah... hang on tight..

cause all these fair value losses

the book value will become lower and thus stock price becomes lower too

that's why previous market already sold these property counters down to 30-50% discount to book value

perhaps this idea of buying companies for its NAV is truly done and dusted in sgx. perhaps only discount to cashflow matters...

let's wait a while and see how. UOL still have UOB to depend on for refinancing... won't go too far south no matter what. :(

Pay more attention to corporate second quarter earnings. Likely to be weak for most companies.

I think must see which industry ba

for banks and property counters, book value matters a lot to me... however must also investigate their asset quality...

for tech or service counters like telcos... I see cash flow a lot too

value trap or not must see asset quality

if 2 property counters trade at $2 with a NAV of $3

one is called

Capitaland

another is called

China Super Land

I will go for the blue chip with track record and higher chance of good quality assets

For property counters, looking at NAV alone is not wise as valuation varies with the economy. I would not totally ignore it either, but consider it with other measurements, ie PE, FCF, strong Cash, Low debt, dividends, ROE.
