Thanks for your suggestion. To tell the truth, havent researched on Taroko Gorge yet, except seeing all the nice pic my colleague sent me, he went there last yr with his parent and young kids, and they engaged a driver to go there, so i thot my team shld be able to do it also, coz our kids are bigger and both elderly can walk.

Will do some research on Chiayi also.

Thanks

Taroko Gorge is a national park. It can be done on a scooter or using the shuttle bus. Some hire a driver. The driver can only bring you to the start of the trail. The driver can't drive the vehicle into the 'attractions'. You have to walk the trails to get to the 'attractions'.

An example:
The Baiyang Trail leads to the Baiyang Waterfall and Shuiliandong Water Curtain.

At 2.1km in length, the trail is a scenic type route that takes around 40 minutes to walk one way. The original route must be taken back to the main road.

Another example:
Changchun Shrine
While the shrine and spring are visible from the main road, the shrine is located 300m away from the main road by following the Changchun Trail (長春祠步道). The entrance to the trail is located at the base of the Old Changchun Bridge (舊長春橋), and is a very steep walk cut into the mountainside. This hiking type trail requires a moderate level of fitness ability.

The major stops along the trail include the Changchun Shrine (長春祠), Guanyin Cave (觀音洞), Taroko Tower (太魯閣樓), hill-top Bell Tower (鐘樓) and “stairway to heaven", suspension bridge, and Changuang Temple (禪光寺), looping back to PH8. The trail takes around 1 hour to complete with a distance of 2,030m.

Eternal shrine has a good resting point.
Where people can lepak there while the rest make an attempt across.

Thanks for the details. I think i will avoid the steep walk. Will research more to find a trail suitable for my family. All of them hv no problem hiking. Last yr we went HK Lamma Island, the same family members, we hiked for 3-4 hrs fr one village to another. But because we have 2 elderly, the trail must not be too steep or dangerous for them. Will do more research b4 the trip. Thanks!

Will not want to stay leo's. So expensive.
Cingjing is good, can catch sunrise at hehuanshan.
I doubt they are really full, or maybe you need to make a call to them.

Yeap, the leofoo resort is expensive. but i think i saw in some travel programme that some rooms in the resort can view the animals directly outside. must be quite an experience.

I will email flying cow ranch once i confirm the items on my list.

Her suggestion is to stay a night, next day to alishan for a day trip and back to chiayi though.
But will you be wanting to catch sunrise at alishan?

Actually i might not want to catch the sunrise, saw in some blogs that need to wake up at 4.30am in order to catch the sunrise. I hv 4 kids in my grp, getting them up will be a problem. And 4.30am might be dark and cold outside, afraid it might not be suitable for the elderly .....

You can consider Yangmingshan. View the maple leaves (early Dec) and experience the hot spring. Yangmingshan is a national park.

Or Tainan. There's quite a fair bit of attractions. The Blueprint Creative Park, Anping Fort and the Anping Tree House and also the various temples in Tainan.

If no sunrise, then i think you can skip the night at alishan, unless you decided to fully explore it with fenchihu on the second day.
Very much up to you.
Like you said you have 4 kids and some elderly, so it's your call.

孔庙
赤崁樓
七股盐山
And not forgetting to 烤牡蛎。
Last went Sept last year, shiok and cheap.
But really took up quite awhile to BBQ.

Thanks both for the recommendation. I went to 孔庙 during last trip and we were very lucky to have met the calligraphy teacher, each of us have a red packet as blessing with the teacher's calligraphy writing on it, very nice of the teacher :)

Air is definitely fresher.
And feels so happy from all those trees, releasing happy vibes too!
Staying out is cheaper but not as shiok.

Just stay in Taipei bah.

Can consider the 4 days Taipei itinerary shared by bro wongkc earlier... last 2nd day maybe can squeeze in Ximending, and elephant mountain if your dad can hike...in place of the shopping...

Felt like spending the whole 5d4n in Taipei would be a waste for my father since he is going for the first time. Thinking of maybe first day taichung second day hsinchu and the remaining 3 days in taipei? Open to suggestions to other areas as well. TIA

There's nothing much in Hsinchu. You can do it as a day trip from Taipei. Beats changing hotels and unpacking and packing.

With an old folk, unless you decide to visit nanzhuang, nanliao fishing harbour, glass museum, 城隍廟,內灣老街 or 北浦老街+冷泉。
It is your call.

A good hotel stay will be ambassador hotel.
合興車站 and 內灣老街 can take train from hsinchu station and if you can walk, can walk over to 城隍廟。

Long weekend, sure expensive.
