With an old folk, unless you decide to visit nanzhuang, nanliao fishing harbour, glass museum, 城隍廟，內灣老街 or 北浦老街+冷泉。
It is your call.

A good hotel stay will be ambassador hotel.
合興車站 and 內灣老街 can take train from hsinchu station and if you can walk, can walk over to 城隍廟。

There's nothing much in Hsinchu. You can do it as a day trip from Taipei. Beats changing hotels and unpacking and packing.

You can immediately go TC from the airport. Usually I will take the bus which takes about 1.5hrs journey in the early morning.

Best is to spend a night in TC as it is very tiring to travel at night back to Taipei. Stay a night, have breakfast in TC, then take the HSR to Taipei.

Can be done.
Take it slow by bus (but i hate another 2-3hrs sitting again)or hsr though.
Like twosix mentioned, go for an overnight.
Cityinn taichung is a decent place.
Night market, zhongxiao night market, fengjia night market,tunghai night market are the few renown ones.
So stay a night before heading north to taipei.

Initially thinking of staying in Alishan to feel the nature, didnt know that the main purpose to stay at Alishan is for the sunrise .... havent been to Alishan b4, does it have the nature feeling staying in Alishan misu? If i stay away fr Alishan, will it be cheaper? Thanks

Actually depend on you plan, I feel the same way as you and many others. But after visiting Alishan, there isn't a need to stay overnight. If you don't have 1 full day to spend in Alishan, then staying a night is a must.
Good thing for staying a night: to feel the coldest in the morning, air is very fresh, take the forest train then slowly walk down to the Alishan train station area.
Minsu and hotel are expensive, so some ppl will stay in Chiayi or mid of alishan, next morning go to alishan.

Actually depend on you plan, I feel the same way as you and many others. But after visiting Alishan, there isn't a need to stay overnight. If you don't have 1 full day to spend in Alishan, then staying a night is a must.
Good thing for staying a night: to feel the coldest in the morning, air is very fresh, take the forest train then slowly walk down to the Alishan train station area.
Minsu and hotel are expensive, so some ppl will stay in Chiayi or mid of alishan, next morning go to alishan.

I did a 3D2N, become too excessive.
But it is a good time to relax and go easy.
First day to 神木
Then sunrise, second day walk down to sister's pond, and the other train station.
3rd day back to city in chiayi to northwards.

First time did not even go to fenchihu.

Nowadays, I hate to rush and rush.
Most of the time, you find yourself, forgetting this and that.
Spoil your whole journey due to rush to wait, wait to rush.

I suggest staying for the night, I think you can spend a long time just walking around Fengjia night market. Take an HSR from Taichung to Taipei is merely a short while

And like to go out of the way.

Any budget hotels to recommend in Taichung other than CityInn? Which location would be ideal? Will probably book Re-Change Hotel when I am in Taipei as it is near Taipei Main Station.
